Brown Men's Lacrosse Lands Nine On USILA All-American Team

Philadelphia, PA – Nine Brown players were named USILA All-Americans as the #5 seed Brown men's lacrosse team prepares to play #1 Maryland in the National Semifinals of the NCAA Division I Championship today in Philadelphia. Headlining the team and earning First Team All-American honors are attackman Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY), a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award as the nation's top player, senior goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY), the 2016 Senior CLASS Award winner, and junior long stick midfielder Larken Kemp (Greenwich, CT). Senior face-off specialist Will Gural (Haverford, PA) and junior defenseman Alec Tulett (Toronto, Ontario) earned Second Team All-American honors. In addition, senior attackman Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD), senior middy Brendan Caputo (Westbury, NY) and senior defensive middie John Yozzo-Scaperrotta (Dobbs Ferry, NY) were Third Team All-Americans, while senior attackman Henry Blynn (Haverford, PA) earned Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Molloy is a two-time Ivy League and New England Player of the Year and considered one of the top players in NCAA history. His 114 points this season (60 goals, 54 assists) rank fourth in the NCAA record book, and he's challenging Albany's Lyle Thompson for the NCAA single season scoring record of 128 points. He missed the NCAA Quarterfinal game vs. Navy due to injury and is questionable for Saturday's game against Maryland. Molloy, who scored four goals and handed out four assists in Brown's NCAA First Round win over Johns Hopkins, leads the country in assists (3.18 per game) and points (6.71 per game), and ranks third in goals (3.53 per game). His 151 career goals are a Brown record, eclipsing the previous mark of 150 goals by Andy Towers from 1990-1993. He also ranks second on Brown's all-time scoring list with 245 career points, eighth best in Ivy League history.
Kelly, a two-time First Team All-Ivy and All-American a year ago, currently leads the country in save percentage (.617), ranks ninth in the nation in goals against average (8.09), and 12th nationally in saves per game (11.56). Kelly's 659 career saves are a new Brown record, eclipsing the previous record of 631 by Dick Alter 1964-1966. He came up with 12 big stops in Brown's NCAA Quarterfinal win over Navy, and registered 11 saves in Brown's 17-8 NCAA First Round win over Johns Hopkins. Kelly was named the USILA Defensive Player of the Week after making nine of his 12 saves in the first half vs. Cornell, allowing just five goals, and making 10 saves in a win over cross-town rival Providence, while allowing just six goals. Kelly, who had 11 saves in Brown's win over #1 Yale, provided the spark in Brown's win over Penn with 15 saves, while allowing just four goals.
A First Team All-Ivy and All-New England selection in 2016, Kemp is equally adept on the offensive and defensive ends of the field, and excels on the wing during face-offs. He is 12th nationally in caused turnovers (1.83 per game), 20th in ground balls (4.94 per game) and has five goals and 12 assists on the season. Kemp wreaked havoc with Navy in the NCAA Quarterfinals, causing four turnovers and picking up five ground balls. An offensive threat, Kemp whistled in a goal vs. Providence and had three assists vs. Penn. Kemp caused four turnovers and picked-up eight ground balls vs. Bryant. He picked up six ground balls and caused two turnovers vs. Princeton, and disrupted #14 Harvard for five turnovers, while picking up seven ground balls in Brown's 11-8 win over the Crimson.
Gural is a First Team All-Ivy and All-New England selection, who currently ranks second in the nation in face-off percentage, winning 250-of-355 (.704) face-offs, and is fifth nationally in ground balls (7.59 per game). He captured 18-of-24 face-offs in Brown's NCAA Quarterfinal win over Navy, while picking up 11 ground balls. Gural dominated the field against Johns Hopkins in Brown's First Round win over the Blue Jays, winning 16-of-20 face-offs, while scoring two goals from the face-off x. He proved his value in Brown's win over Virginia by winning 18-of-26 face-offs and scoring a career-high three goals, all directly off face-offs. Gural captured 17-of-18 face-offs vs. Dartmouth, while picking up 10 ground balls. He was named the Ivy League and Baltimore Sun National Player of the Week after scoring two goals and handing out two assists in Brown's win over #1 Yale, while picking up 11 ground balls and winning 19-of 27 face-offs, including 11-of-13 face-offs in the second half.
Tulett anchors the Bears' close defense and is a First Team All-Ivy and All-New England selection. A two-year starter for the Bears, Tulett currently ranks 16th in the nation in ground balls (5.5 per game). He had a goal and five ground balls in Brown's NCAA Quarterfinal win over Navy. He had four ground balls and two caused turnovers in Brown's NCAA First Round win over Johns Hopkins. Tulett picked up five ground balls and caused a turnover in Brown's win over Virginia. Tulett excelled on the offensive side of the ball against Princeton, scoring two goals, while also picking up seven ground balls against the Tigers.
A First Team All-Ivy selection, Caputo has 119 career points with 70 goals and 49 assists. He eclipsed the 100-point mark with a goal and two assists in Brown's win over #1 Yale earlier this year. Caputo has 19 goals and 18 assists for the season after registering a goal against Navy in the NCAA Quarterfinals. He had a goal and an assist in Brown's NCAA First Round win over Johns Hopkins. Caputo led the Bears' midfield with two goals and two assists in Brown's 19-8 win over Princeton, and posted a big game vs. #19 Stony Brook with three goals and two assists
Bellistri was a Top 25 nominee for the Tewaaraton Award, and another marksman for the Bears' attack. His 62 goals in 2016 tie Brown's all-time single-season record, held by Dylan Molloy in 2015. Bellistri sparked the Bears with four goals and two assists in Brown's NCAA Quarterfinal win over Navy. He ranks second nationally with 4.94 points per game, and is fourth nationally in goals with 3.41 per game. An Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection, his 170 career points rank seventh all-time at Brown. He netted three goals in Brown's NCAA First Round win over Johns Hopkins.
Yozzo-Scapperrotta emerged as a major contributor in the defensive midfield in 2016. A clearing machine for the Bears, often running around, over and through opponents as he races past midfield into the box. He scored two goals and picked up 19 ground balls.
Blynn is Brown's third leading scorer with 63 points (50 goals, 13 assists) and his 150 career points (115 goals, 35 assists) are 14th in the Brown record book. Blynn is 10th nationally with 2.78 goals per game. He had two goals and an assist in Brown's NCAA Quarterfinal win over Navy. Blynn played a key role in Brown's NCAA First Round win over Johns Hopkins with four goals, including a SportsCenter Top 10 play against the Blue Jays. He had two goals and an assist in Brown's NCAA Quarterfinal win over Navy. An Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection, Blynn tossed in four goals in Brown's win over Virginia and scored four goals in Brown's win over Dartmouth.
