PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University softball fell at Providence College, 8-0, in five innings in a single non-conference game at Glay Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears (16-17) fell to their crosstown rivals as the host Friars (16-22) scored eight runs over the first four innings.

For Brown, junior Christina Andrews (Southlake, Texas) and sophomores Yeram Park (Arcadia, Calif.) and Grayson Metzger (Severna Park, Md.) each posted one hit.

Nicole Lundstrom, Julianne Rurka, and Brittney Veler each drove in two runs for the Friars while Kelsi Luttrell scored three runs.

Taylor Huntly (5-11) picked up the win in the shutout, allowing no runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in a complete-game 5.0 innings.

Sophomore pitcher Katie Orona (Pueblo, Colo.) pitched 2.2 innings of relief, giving up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Junior Leah Nakashima (San Jose, Calif.) threw 1.0 inning in relief, and classmate Gina Chieffallo (Eynon, Pa.) took the loss (5-2) in the start.

Providence struck for two runs in the bottom of the first as Veler sent a two-run double to left field, scoring Lundstrom and Luttrell.

In the last of the second, the Friars plated four runs, extending their lead to 6-0. PC's first run scored after a single from Emma Lee before Lundstrom forced home a run with a walk, and Rurka drove a two-run double down the right field line.

The Friars closed the scoring with two runs in the home half of the fourth. Lundstrom plated a run with a double to center field, and Vanessa Portillo followed with an RBI on an infield single.

Next, Brown plays four games at Harvard University with a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday, Apr. 23 and Sunday, Apr. 24 with both days beginning at 12:30 p.m.
