Game 1: Brown 5, Penn 1 (8 Innings) | Video Highlights
Andrews hit her three-run home run in the top of the eighth, Orona did not allow an earned run in a complete game, and Brown softball surged to a 5-1 win over Penn in eight innings in game one in its Ivy League opener.
With the game tied 1-1 heading to extra innings, freshman Cat Seitz (Poway, Calif.) and junior Sarah Syrop (Kennesaw, Ga.) each doubled in the top of the eighth to put runners on second and third. Andrews (Southlake, Texas) then launched her home run over the wall in left center to lift Brown ahead 4-1.
The home run stood as Andrews' first of the season and the fourth of her career while Syrop finished the day 2-for-4 with two doubles. Freshman Ashli Lotz (Austin, Texas) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and drove in Brown's only run prior to extra innings in the top of the fifth.
Orona (Pueblo, Colo.) tossed a compete-game 8.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits with nine strikeouts, tying a season high, in the win (6-4).
Against Sargent (8-2), the Ivy League's ERA leader, the Bears tallied 10 hits, including seven extra-base hits. Sargent, who entered the day with a 0.93 ERA, pitched a complete game, permitting five runs, four earned, with nine strikeouts.
The Bears claimed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth as junior Lauren Hanna (Milford, Mass.) led off the inning with a bunt single and made her way to third on a sacrifice from senior Janet Leung (Mississauga, Ontario), and a groundout from sophomore Yeram Park (Arcadia, Calif.). Lotz then drove her in with a double off the wall in right center
Penn tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh placing runners on second and third with no outs before a run came home on a ground ball. With the bases loaded with one out, freshman Sofia Venegas (La Mirada, Calif.) threw a run out at the plate and then tagged a runner out on the next at bat to help send the game to extras.
After Andrews' homer, Brown pulled ahead 5-1 in the eighth after sophomore Emily Springfield (Oceanside, Calif.) put a ball in play. Orona did not allow a hit in the bottom of the eighth and escaped a jam with runners on second and third behind a catcher's interference call, an error, and a ground out.
Brown threatened in the first, second, and third as Park, Syrop, and Lotz doubled in each respective inning. Orona worked out of jams in both the first and second before facing four or fewer batters in each of the third through sixth frames.
Game 2: Penn 2, Brown 0
