Men's Tennis Cruises Past Louisiana at Lafayette, 4-1

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Brown men's tennis team defeated Louisiana at Lafayette, 4-1, on Monday at the Cajun Courts. All four of the Bears' points in the win came in singles play and were won in straight sets.

The Ragin Cajuns took the doubles point but needed extra points to do so in both match wins. Junior Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) and sophomore Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) came up just short in first doubles (7-5) and so did sophomore Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and freshman Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) in second doubles (7-7 (7-3)).

Haworth got the Bears back on track with a 6-2, 6-2 win in third doubles and was followed by Garcia's victory in first singles (6-4, 6-4). Freshman Mladen Mitak (Zagreb, Croatia) was the next to finish, with a 6-3, 6-4 win in fourth singles while Tan closed out the match and further sealed Brown's victory with a 7-6, 6-3 win in the fifth spot.

The Bears will remain in Louisiana and compete against No. 48 LSU on Tuesday, March 29 (3:00 p.m.) and No. 22 Tulane on Wednesday, March 30 (3:00 p.m.).
