PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer senior midfielder Carly Gould, sophomore goalkeeper Christine Etzel, and junior back Maclaine Lehan have garnered NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday.
Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and Etzel (Madison, Conn.) both earned First Team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors while Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) gained Second Team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades. Brown tied for first in the region and led all Ivy League schools with three selections.
Etzel and Lehan also both earned notice as Honorable Mention ECAC Division I Women's Soccer All-Stars.
Gould led Brown in points (12), goals (four), assists (four), shots (38), shots on goal (18), and game-winning goals (three) this past season. A three-time All-Ivy selection, she finished her career with 64 games played, 60 games started, 36 points, 15 goals, and six game-winning goals. This fall she earned First Team All-Ivy honors and a spot in the NEWISA Senior Bowl.
The 2016 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, Etzel earned First Team All-Ivy honors this fall after gaining Honorable Mention accolades as a rookie. At the end of the regular season, she ranked second in the NCAA in save percentage (0.921), fourth in goals-against average (0.361) and 13th in shutouts (10).
Etzel led the Ivy League in goals against (six), GAA, total saves (70), save percentage, and shutouts. Her 10 shutouts and 0.361 GAA both rank second in a single-season at Brown with her 0.921 save percentage ranking third.
A First Team All-Ivy selection this past fall, Lehan played all 1,540 minutes on the season. Having missed just one game for the Bears in her three years, she has played every minute in all 48 games in which she has appeared. She recorded the first points of her career in 2016, notching five points on a goal and three assists.
Acting as one of the team's center backs, Lehan helped Brown rank second in the NCAA in save percentage (0.918), fifth in GAA (.409), and 10th in shutout percentage (0.625) as a team at the end of the regular season. The team allowed just seven goals on the year with 10 shutouts, ranking second on both of Brown's single-season lists. As a team, the Bears led the Ancient Eight in goals allowed, GAA, and shutouts.
The trio aided Brown in finishing second in the Ivy League standings, marking its highest finish in the league table since winning the conference title in 1994. The Bears earned points in 14 of their 16 matches on the season and finished in the top half of the league standings in back-to-back years for the first time since 1993-94. Brown closed the year with its highest winning percentages both overall (.719) and in conference play (.714) since the year 2000.
