PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer defender Layla Shell has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Shell, a senior from Midlothian, Virginia, was a key fixture on the Bears' backline during the 2025 campaign, appearing in all 17 contests. Shell was named to the Ivy League All-Academic Team and All-Tournament team.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher, and compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of contests.
Shell spent three seasons with the Bears after transferring in, playing in 51 games and starting 42. She scored four goals and three assists, and she won the Ivy League Championship in 2023.
