
No. 11 Men's Water Polo Beats Toronto, Dartmouth in Exhibition Play

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 11 Brown University men's water polo defeated the University of Toronto, 15-7, and Dartmouth College, 14-6, in a pair of exhibition games at the Harvard Invitational at Blodgett Pool on Sunday.
The Bears used a 13-1 run against the Varsity Blues – representatives of Canada's CIS – and a 12-2 streak against the Big Green – a club program – en route to the two victories.
Junior Tommy Bush (Lafayette, Calif.) scored five goals in the win over Toronto while senior Warren Smith (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Christian Cooper (Chicago, Ill.) each netted four goals between the two games.
In net, sophomore goalkeeper Will Renken (South Pasadena, Calif.) totaled 20 saves on the day.
Next, Brown plays in four games at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational from Oct. 21-23. At "The Rodeo," the Bears compete against Santa Clara (Oct. 21, 10:00 p.m. ET), Fresno Pacific (Oct. 22, 2:40 p.m. ET), San Jose State (Oct. 22, 8:00 p.m. ET), and Loyola Marymount (Oct. 23, 11:00 a.m. ET).
Game 1 – No. 11 Brown 15, Toronto 7
Bush scored five goals to lead No. 11 Brown to a 15-7 exhibition win over the University of Toronto in its first game of the day at the Harvard Invitational on Sunday morning.
The Bears outscored the Varsity Blues, 13-1, over a period spanning from the first to the fourth quarter to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 13-3 advantage with 5:49 to play.
Senior Warren Smith (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Spencer Carroll (Newport Beach, Calif.) each scored two goals.
Senior Luke Irwin (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), sophomore Travis Bouscaren (Cambridge, Mass.), and freshmen Christian Cooper (Chicago, Ill.), Armen Deirmenjian (Beverly Hills, Calif.), Hudson Rawlings (Murrieta, Calif.), and Jack Wilson (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) netted one goal apiece.
In the cage, Renken made 12 saves.
After Toronto opened the contest with a 2-0 lead, Rawlings found the back of the net to bring Brown within 2-1 after one quarter.
The Bears outscored the Varsity Blues, 5-1, in the second quarter to gain a 6-3 edge at the half. Bush scored the frame's first two goals before Carroll, Smith, and Wilson all converted.
Brown won the third quarter, 5-0, with Bush adding two more goals in addition to markers from Irwin, Deirmenjian, and Carroll.
In the final period, Bush, Smith, Bouscaren, and Cooper all scored goals with Toronto countering with four tallies of their own.

Game 2 – No. 11 Brown 14, Dartmouth 6
Cooper led No. 11 Brown with three goals as the Bears topped Dartmouth, 14-6, in their second game of the day at the Harvard Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears took control of the game with a 12-2 run spanning from the first to the fourth quarter, turning a 2-2 tie into a 14-4 edge with 5:32 remaining.
Deirmenjian, Smith, Wilson, and freshman James Thygesen (Menlo Park, Calif.) each netted two goals while Bouscaren, Rawlings, and junior Tyler Kirchberg (Orinda, Calif.) posted one goal apiece.
In goal, Renken turned aside eight shots in three quarters of play, and junior Austin Hwang (Laguna Hills, Calif.) stopped two shots in the fourth frame.
Wilson and Cooper each netted goals early in the fourth quarter with Dartmouth responding with a marker each time. Rawlings and Bouscaren then each found the back of the net to put Brown up 4-2 heading to the second quarter.
Kirchberg and Wilson tallied the second stanza's only goals to give the Bears a 6-2 edge at the intermission.
Brown scored six of the third quarter's first seven goals to grab a 12-3 lead. Smith started the scoring with back-to-back tallies before two goals from Deirmenjian and markers from Thygesen and Cooper. Dartmouth cut its deficit to 12-4 through three quarters.
Each side scored twice in the final frame with Thygesen and Cooper providing the goals for Brown.
