
Women's Hockey Drops 4-1 Non-Conference Game at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior Hunter Davis' (Clifton Park, N.Y.) first-career goal wasn't enough as Merrimack used three power-play goals to defeat the Brown women's hockey team, 4-1, on Tuesday night at Lawler Rink in a non-conference game.
Merrimack (4-21-1) took at 1-0 lead at 10:54 in the first period with its first power-play goal from Emily Volpe. Brown (3-15-1) finished the stanza with a slight shot advantage at 7-6. The Warriors went 1-for-2 on the power play while the Bears were 0-for-2.
In the second period, Merrimack went up 2-0 with a goal from Katelyn Rae at 5:27. Later in the period, Brown got on the board to pull within one (2-1) at 8:39 when Davis scored her first-career tally when she wrapped around the Merrimack net, beating the Warriors goalie for the score. Freshman Leah Olson (East Harwich, Mass.) was credited with the assist. Merrimack got its lead back up to two when Rae scored her second goal of the game at 18:49 while on the power play. The Warriors had a 5-on-3 advantage during the play, and scored just as one of the Brown skaters returned to the ice. Merrimack carried a 12-10 lead in shots in the period to enter the third with a two-goal advantage.
The Warriors scored their third power-play goal 2:48 into the third period to bring the score to 4-1, its eventual final, when Jackie Pieper recorded the tally.
Sophomore Julianne Landry (Hanover, Mass.) ended the game with 28 saves while Merrimack netminder Samantha Ridgewell finished the game with 26.
Merrimack closed the game with a 32-27 advantage in shots. On the power play, the Warriors were 3-for-6 while the Bears were 0-for-2.
The Bears will next return home to Meehan Auditorium and resume ECAC play against Rensselaer on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7:00 p.m. and Union on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4:00 p.m. Saturday's contest will be the team's Alumni Day.
