PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A staunch defensive effort and Kerri Fleishhacker's four points helped pace the Yale Bulldogs to a 8-3 win over the Brown women's lacrosse team on a cold, rainy afternoon at Stevenson Field on Saturday.

The Bears fall to 4-2 overall and drop to 0-2 in Ivy League play, while the Bulldogs improve to 4-3 (1-1 Ivy).

Kellie Roddy (Poway, Calif.) and Erin Mullins each made eight saves amidst a constant rainfall at Stevenson Field.

Things started off well for the Bears in the early going as Rebecca Dahle (Wynnewood, Pa.) got Brown ahead 1-0 on a free position shot 3:17 into the contest. From there, the Bears would struggle offensively, as the Bulldogs would not allow Brown to get good looks at the goal for most of the afternoon.

A 4-0 run after Dahle's goal gave the visitors a 4-1 lead after goals by Nicole Daniggellis, Fleishhacker, and a pair of strikes from Hope Hanley. Freshman Marissa Hudgins (Syracuse, N.Y.) stopped the Yale streak off a free position shot to the top left corner to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) looked to bring the Bears back within one late in the first half, but her free position attempt was stoned by Mullins, who made four of her eight saves in the opening half. That stop proved to be a killer for the Bears as Yale marched down the field and grabbed a 5-2 lead on Fleishhacker's goal with 2:17 to play in the half.

The Bulldogs put to rest any hopes of a Brown comeback as Cathryn Avallone's pair of tallies to open the half put the Bears into a five-goal hole at 7-2. Hanley completed her hat trick with just over 10 minutes left, before Richael Walsh (Westwood, Mass.) scored the Bears' third free position goal of the game with 19 seconds left.

Yale held a slim 7-6 advantage in draw controls, stopping a sizzling run for Brown of 31-of-40 in draws over the previous two games.

Up next, the Bears will travel to Ithaca to battle Cornell next Saturday at Schoellkopf Field beginning at 12 p.m.
