Rookie Tommy Marchin and senior Mark Naclerio scored back-to-back goals early in the third period to even the score, but the Crusaders answered with two straight to seal the win. Five different players scored for the Bears as Nick Lappin, Sam Lafferty and Joe Prescott also notched their first tallies of the season. Junior Tim Ernst registered 28 saves in the loss. Rookie Max Gottlieb posted a multiple-point performance with a pair of assists.
Brown vs. Dartmouth All-Time
When Brown plays Dartmouth on Friday, it will mark the 152nd meeting in the rivalry between the two teams, dating back to 1927-28. Dartmouth leads the all-time series by a 79-65-8 margin and has posted a 12-2-1 record in the last 15 games. Brown went 0-2 against the Big Green last season.
Scouting Dartmouth
Dartmouth dropped a pair of games to Harvard last weekend in a season-opening home-and-home series, falling at home, 7-0, and on the road, 5-2. Charles Grant and James Kruger have allowed five goals apiece, while Devin Buffalo gave up two goals during relief work in the opener. Nick Bligh and Corey Kalk both scored against Harvard in the second game of the series. Dartmouth is 0-for-4 on the power play so far this season. Dartmouth finished 17-12-4 overall and 12-8-2 in ECAC Hockey contests last season, before bowing out at Colgate in the ECAC Quarterfinals.
Brown vs. Harvard All-Time
Brown and Harvard have met 168 times, with the Crimson leading the all-time series, 109-46-13. Brown won the very first meeting between the two schools in the oldest active collegiate hockey rivalry, winning 6-0, in 1898 on a flooded baseball field in Dorchester, Mass. The two teams split the 2014-15 regular season series with each team winning at home, but the Crimson swept the Bears in the first round of the ECAC Playoffs, winning 6-2 and 4-3.
Scouting Harvard
Harvard opened the season last weekend with a home-and-home series against ECAC Hockey and Ivy rival Dartmouth. The Crimson won both contests, taking the opener 7-0 on the road with seven different goal scorers before a 5-2 win at home. Jimmy Vesey was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week on Nov. 3 after posting five points (2G, 3A) in Harvard's opening-weekend sweep of Dartmouth. Merrick Madsen was 2-0-0 on the weekend, allowing just two goals for a 1.00 GAA and a .956 save percentage. Harvard captured the ECAC Tournament title last season and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament before falling to Nebraska-Omaha in the first round, 4-1.
Senior Class Shines
The senior class of 2016 had three of Brown's five goals in the opener as Nick Lappin (1-1-2), Joe Prescott (1-0-1) and Mark Naclerio (1-0-1) each scored against Holy Cross. The four-player senior class was responsible for 35 percent of the team's points in the opener.
Spreading the Wealth
Brown exploded for five goals in the season-opening loss to Holy Cross, while five different players scored for the Bears. Brown reached the five-goal mark in just two games last season in a pair of wins at Providence and RPI.
Up Next
Brown will continue its four-game road trip next weekend when the Bears travel to Union (11/13) and RPI (11/14).
