
No. 1 Seed Men's Water Polo Falls to No. 4 Johns Hopkins in CWPA Semis, 8-7

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Jake Wyatt scored a game-high three goals, but No. 1 seed Brown University men's water polo fell to No. 4 seed Johns Hopkins University, 8-7, in the semifinals of the 2015 CWPA Championship at MIT's Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 10 nationally-ranked Bears (24-7) tied the game at 7-7 with 2:41 left, but the No. 19-ranked Blue Jays (21-9) scored the game-winning goal with 44 seconds remaining.
Brown will now play in the third-place match on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against No. 3 seed and No. 12-ranked Harvard (20-10). Johns Hopkins will face No. 2 seed and No. 11-ranked Princeton (21-4) in the title game on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Wyatt (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) paced the Bears offense while junior Yahel Murvitz-Lahav (Tel Aviv, Israel) neted two goals. Seniors Matty Gallas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Will Klein (Pasadena, Calif.) recorded one goal apiece.
In net, junior goalkeeper Luke Weiser (Los Alamitos, Calif.) made 11 saves. Weiser and the Bears' defense did not allow the Blue Jays to score a goal on nine 6-on-5 opportunities.
Murvitz-Lahav scored both of Brown's first two goals to give the Bears a 2-1 edge midway through the first quarter. Wyatt closed the period's scoring as Brown led 3-2 after one stanza.
Each team scored just once in the second quarter with Klein notching the tally for the Bears to give Brown a 4-3 advantage at the break.
Johns Hopkins outscored Brown 3-1 in the third quarter to pull ahead 6-5. Wyatt scored after a JHU marker, but the Blue Jays registered the quarter's final two goals.
Wyatt tied the score at 6-6 at the 6:52 mark of the fourth quarter. JHU went ahead 7-6 with 5:31 to play, but Gallas answered with 2:41 remaining to pull Brown level at 7-7. Johns Hopkins took the win with its goal with 44 seconds left.
The two teams split the season series as Brown beat JHU, 15-7, on Sept. 12 at the Bucknell Invitational.
