Last Time Out
Brown is coming off a three-point road weekend after the Bears earned a comeback win at Union, 3-2, before a draw at Rensselaer, 3-3. Max Willman scored the game-winning goal with 28 seconds left in overtime at Union. Nick Lappin scored off a turnover with 1:38 left in the third period to send the game to overtime. He also added an assist for the two-point effort. Tim Ernst recorded 37 saves, including 14 in the first and second periods.
Nick Lappin also scored a pair of third-period goals at RPI. In a controversial call, Willman scored in the final minute of overtime for his second game winner in as many nights, but the goal was initially ruled no good and due to difficulties with the replay system, the play was unable to be reviewed. Rookie Tommy Marchin scored the other goal for the Bears and also added an assist. Mark Naclerio registered three assists and freshman Max Gottlieb had two helpers.
Brown vs. Colgate All-Time
Friday night's game between the Raiders and the Bears marks the 83rd meeting between the two teams in a series that began on March 8, 1935, a 1-0 Brown victory. Colgate leads the all-time series, 55-22-5, after the Raiders swept the series last season. Brown will play Colgate three times this season, playing the Raiders at the Friendship Four and Catamount Cup tournaments, in addition to this weekend.
Scouting Colgate
Colgate heads into Friday's matchup 4-7-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the ECAC after dropping both ends of a home-and-home with Cornell last weekend. Senior forward Tyson Spink leads the team with 11 points (5g, 6a), while his brother, Tylor, is second with nine points (3g, 6a). Senior Darcy Murphy has a pair of game-winning goals so far this season. Charlie Finn is 4-7 in net with a 3.47 GAA and a .898 save percentage. Colgate made a strong run in the ECAC Tournament last season, falling to Harvard in the championship game, 4-2.
Brown vs. Cornell All-Time
Cornell leads the all-time series with Brown, which began with an 8-2 Brown win on February 21, 1959, by a 73-43-6 margin. Brown fell to the Big Red on the road last season before the two teams split at Meehan Auditorium, 3-3.
Scouting Cornell
Cornell (5-1-0, 3-1-0 ECAC) swept a home-and-home with Colgate last weekend and will visit Yale on Friday before heading to Providence. Cornell's only loss was to Quinnipiac, 5-4, in overtime. Jeff Kubiak paces the team in points (9) and assists (6), while Anthony Angello has four goals. Mitch Gillam is 5-1-0 in net with a 2.14 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Cornell is ranked second in the ECAC in scoring offense at 3.83 goals per game. Cornell went 9-9-4 in the ECAC last season and fell to Union in the first round of the conference tournament.
Lappin Named ECAC Player of the Week
Nick Lappin was named ECAC Player of the Week on Nov. 17 after he paced Brown to a three-point road weekend with four points in league play, including three goals, in consecutive two-point games. He first scored the game-tying goal against Union with 1:38 left in regulation to force overtime before the eventual victory. He also scored back-to-back third period goals in a hard fought tie at Rensselaer. Lappin ranks fifth nationally in goals per game (0.80) and has recorded seven points on four goals and three assists in just five contests for the Bears. He is the first member of the Bears to earn a conference award this season.
Willman's OT Winner
Max Willman scored with 28 seconds left in overtime to lift Brown to a road win at Union, 3-2. It was Brown's first overtime win since 2013 (12/6 vs. Dartmouth) and the team's first road overtime win since 2007 (3/2 at Princeton).
Naclerio Lends a Hand
Mark Naclerio matched a career high with three assists in a 3-3 tie at RPI. It was the first time a Brown player had three assists in a game since Jan. 17, 2014 at St. Lawrence, when both Naclerio and Nick Lappin had three assists apiece.
Power Surge
After going 0-for-6 on the power play in the first three games, the Bears scored three with the extra man at Union/RPI and now rank fourth in the ECAC at 25 percent (3/12).
Bruno in Belfast
Next week, Brown will travel to Northern Ireland to participate in the inaugural "Friendship Four," an international tournament in Belfast, along with Colgate, UMass Lowell and Northeastern. Brown will play a conference game against Colgate on Friday, November 27 before taking on one of the Hockey East teams in the championship/consolation game the following day. The Friendship Four will be held at the Belfast Giants/Odyssey Arena.
