
Women's Hockey Closes Calendar Year at RPI, Union

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's ice hockey closes the 2014 calendar year with a pair of road ECAC contests at Rensselaer on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Union on Saturday at 4 p.m. before entering into its winter break.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Maddie Woo (Plymouth, Minn.) scored a career-high two goals, but Brown University women's ice hockey fell to Providence College, 4-2, at Schneider Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Friars evened up the season series at one game apiece after the Bears defeated their cross-town rivals the day prior, 2-1, at Meehan Auditorium to claim the 20th Annual Mayor's Cup.
Woo doubled her career goals total on the day, having come into the game with two goals scored in 39 career games. Senior Sarah Robson (Mississauga, Ontario) earned her team-leading seventh assist of the season while freshman Samantha Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) tallied her third assist this year.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
RPI enters the weekend with a 2-11-2 overall record, a 0-4-0 mark in ECAC play, and a 2-4-1 record at home. Last weekend the Engineers split a two-game series with RIT, winning 4-1 on Nov. 28 and falling 3-0 on Nov. 29.
Laura Horwood and Kathryn Schilter have each posted a team-high eight points on the year. Horwood has recorded three goals and five assists while Schilter has tallied a team-best seven assists and one goal.
In net, Kelly O'Brien and Brianna Piper have shared playing time, having made eight and seven starts respectively. O'Brien has registered a .904 save percentage and a 3.25 goals-against average on the year while Piper has logged a .893 save percentage and a 3.08 goals-against average.
SCOUTING THE DUTCHWOMEN
Union brings a 2-10-2 overall mark, 0-4-0 ECAC record, and 1-2-2 home mark into the weekend after picking up a 1-0 win at Northeastern on Tuesday night.
In the win over the Huskies, goaltender Shenae Lundberg made a career-high 59 saves while the Dutchwomen's defense blocked 37 shots to shut out the hosts.
Lundberg leads the ECAC with 500 saves and ranks third in the conference with a .929 save percentage. She has played every minute in goal this year for the Dutchwomen.
Kathryn Tomaselli leads the team with seven points and four goals in addition to three assists. Jessica Kaminsky has dished out a team-best four assists.
LAST SEASON'S MATCHUPS
In 2013-14, Brown split both of its series with RPI and Union, winning both of its home games while suffering setbacks in each of its road contests.
The Bears beat RPI, 3-0, on Feb. 7 at home behind goals from Kaitlyn Keon, Sarah Robson, and Maddie Woo. The next day in Meehan Auditorium, Brown took down Union, 2-1, with a goal from Jessica Hoyle, and a game-winning tally from Monica Masucci.
Earlier in the season, Brown fell 2-1 at Union on Nov. 15 and lost at Rensselaer 4-1 on Nov. 16
KEON PACING BEARS
Senior Kaitlyn Keon (Toronto, Ontario) leads Brown with 11 points on a team-high seven goals and four assists.
She has recorded a point in eight of her last 10 games and enters this weekend with 98 career games played.
Her seven goals rank tied for eighth in the ECAC in scoring. She is tied for first in the league with five power play points and is tied for sixth in the conference with two power play goals.
She scored five goals over three games from Nov. 4-8 to earn ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honors.
MULTIPLE CONTRIBUTORS
Senior Sarah Robson (Mississauga, Ontario) ranks second on the team with 10 points on a team-best seven assists and three goals. She also enters this weekend with 98 career games played. Classmate Janice Yang (Westport, Conn.) has totaled seven points on six assists and one goal.
Freshman Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) has registered seven points on six goals and an assist and ranks tied for fourth in the ECAC with four game-winning goals. She stands 10th in the conference in freshman scoring and sits in a tie for 12th in goals, regardless of class. Sophomore Erin Conway (Jackson, Mich.) has tallied three goals and three assists.
DEFENSE PRODUCING OFFENSE
The Bears defense has provided a boost to the team's offense this season with junior Kelly Micholson (Elk Grove Village, Ill.), classmate Hunter Davis (Clifton Park, N.Y.), and senior Lauren Vella (Staten Island, N.Y.) recording six, five, and four points respectively.
Vella ranks tied for second in the ECAC with three power play goals and sits in a tie for eighth with four power play points. Micholson also stands in a tie for eighth with four power play points and ranks in a tie for 11th in the conference in defenseman scoring. Davis posted two assists in back-to-back games at Cornell on Nov. 15 and vs. Providence on Nov. 28.
OFFENSIVE OUTBURST IN MEEHAN
Brown won three straight games at home in Meehan Auditorium from Nov. 1-8 and totaled 17 goals in those three contests.
The Bears scored five goals in each of their wins over Maine (Nov. 7-8) and compiled seven goals in their 7-4 victory over St. Lawrence on Nov. 1.
With seven goals against the Saints, Brown scored its most goals in a game since winning at Sacred Heart, 10-0, on Dec. 7, 2011. With its five-goal third period, the team scored five goals in a period for the first time since notching five tallies in the first period of a 10-1 win at Quinnipiac on Nov. 18, 2003.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore goaltender Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) has played the majority of time in net for the Bears, notching a 2.79 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage in eight decisions. She ranks tied for fourth in the ECAC with a .500 win percentage and fifth in the league with 273 saves. Freshman Julianne Landry has taken three decisions and compiled 59 total saves.

After this weekend's outings, Brown enters its winter break before resuming play with home games against Harvard (Jan. 2, 7 p.m.) and Dartmouth (Jan. 3, 4 p.m.).
