
Men's Hockey Set for BC, Denver at Dartmouth Ledyard Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team opens up the second half of the season at the Dartmouth Ledyard Classic, when the Bears take on No. 15 Boston College (1/2) and No. 11 Denver (1/3) in a pair of neutral site contests. Last Time Out: Brown has split its last four games and most recently downed Rensselaer, 4-2, at home for the first ECAC win of the season. Tim Ernst turned in an impressive performance in net as he stopped a career high 39 shots to pick up the win. Matt Lorito scored the game winner and added an assist, while Ryan Jacobson, Mark Naclerio and Joe Prescott also found the back of the net. Rookie Sam Lafferty notched a pair of assists.
Scouting Boston College: Boston College enters Friday's opening game at 9-7-1 overall and 3-4-0 in Hockey East play. The Eagles reached the NCAA Frozen Four last season before bowing out to eventual national champion Union in the semifinals. BC has six players with multiple points, while Chris Calnan and Ryan Fitzgerald lead the way with seven goals apiece. Thatcher Demko enters the weekend with a 2.12 GAA and a .927 save percentage in 16 games played. Michael Matheson is the top playmaker with 11 assists. The Eagles clock in at 8.7 percent on the power play (6/69), but rank fourth in Hockey East in scoring at 3.06 goals per game.
Brown vs. BC All-Time: Brown and Boston College have met 71 times in the history of the two programs, with the Eagles leading the all-time series, 47-17-7, dating back to the 1933-34 campaign. The two teams played last season in a 3-3 draw at Meehan Auditorium in the first meeting between the programs since the 1999-00 season. Massimo Lamacchia scored twice for the Bears and Mark Naclerio also found the back of the net. Brown's last victory against BC was during the 1978-79 season by means of a 3-2 decision.
Scouting Denver: Denver heads into the weekend at 10-5-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the NCHC. The Pioneers will take on host Dartmouth on Friday before meeting the Bears on Saturday. Rookie Danton Heinen paces the Pioneers with 17 points on six goals and 11 helpers. Quentin Shore has six goals, including three on the power play, as well as Joey LaLeggia, who has 104 career points. Evan Cowley has played 11 games in net for a 1.89 GAA and a .927 save percentage. He has two shutouts this season in wins over Rensselaer and Air Force. Denver is averaging 3.27 goals per game and has 18 power play tallies, checking in at 26.9 percent. Denver captured the NCHC Tournament Championship last season before falling to Boston College in the NCAA Regional Semifinals.
Brown vs. Denver All-Time: Brown and Denver have met just six times, with the Bears leading the all-time series, 3-2-1, dating back to the 1949-50 campaign. The two teams met last season, in the first meeting since the 1994-95 campaign, and battled to a draw, 3-3. Mark Naclerio scored a pair of third-period goals, while Nick Lappin had one goal and one assist, and Matt Lorito had three assists. Brown's last victory against Denver was during the 1980-81 season by means of a 4-3 decision.
The 26th Annual Dartmouth Ledyard Classic: Brown and Denver will be making their first ever appearance in the Dartmouth Holiday Tournament. Boston College will be making its third appearance and first since 2010 with an overall record of 3-1. Dartmouth has won the tournament six times since the first event in 1978. Air Force captured the 2013 Dartmouth Holiday Tournament last season with a 3-2 victory over Providence College in the championship game.
Ernst Sets Career Best: Sophomore goaltender made a career high 39 saves to lead the Bears over RPI, 4-2, in the team's final game of December. Ernst earned his second win of the season in four starts, including a 1-0 victory over Connecticut for his first career shutout.
Spreading the Wealth: Four players scored and nine players registered at least one points in the team's victory of RPI, while Ryan Jacobson and Joe Prescott scored their first goals of the season.
Facing Off: Mark Naclerio leads the Bears with 120 face-off wins, while rookie Sam Lafferty paces the team in percentage (.509).
Brown/Dunkin' Donuts Center to Host 2015 NCAA Regional: Brown will host the 2015 NCAA Men's Hockey East Regional at Providence's Dunkin' Donuts Center, marking the 10th NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament competition in Providence and second since 2013, which was also hosted by Brown. The Dunkin' Donuts Center, formerly known as the Providence Civic Center, has hosted the Frozen Four six times, and this will be the fourth time it has hosted regional competition. Game dates are Saturday, March 29th and Sunday, March 30th. Game times will be announced at a later date. Tickets are now on sale at Ticketmaster and at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Box Office. The regional winner earns a trip to the 2015 Frozen Four at the TD Garden in Boston, MA (April 9 & 11).
Up Next: After this weekend, the Bears will play a home-and-home series against Providence College in the annual Mayor's Cup.
