
Men's Hockey Hosts SLU and Clarkson This Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team opens up ECAC action at Meehan Auditorium when the Bears play host to St. Lawrence on Friday, Nov. 7 (7:30 p.m.) in the home opener, before taking on Clarkson the following night at 7 p.m. Links to live video and live stats will be available at www.brownbears.com.

Last Time Out: Brown opened the season with a 4-2 victory at Army last weekend. Freshmen Charlie Corcoran and Max Willman, and sophomores Davey Middleton and Kyle Kramer all scored for the Bears, while 10 different players registered one point. Army scored both of its goals on the power play. Tyler Steel made 29 saves in net to earn the win.
Scouting St. Lawrence: St. Lawrence enters Friday's contest at 4-3-1 on the season, most recently playing to a win and a tie against rival Clarkson last weekend in a pair of games that did not count in the ECAC standings. SLU welcomed back 18 returnees from last year's squad, but lost four of the top five scorers, along with goaltender Matt Weninger. Drew Smolcynski leads the team with nine points, including eight assists, while rookie Mike Marnell (3 goals) paces a group of nine players with multiple goals. Kyle Hayton has played all eight games in net for the Saints, posting a .939 save percentage and a 2.21 goals-against average. As a team, the Saints rank second in the conference with 3.50 goals per game. SLU finished eighth in the ECAC standings in 2013-14 and advanced to the ECAC Quarterfinals before falling to Colgate in two games.
Brown vs. SLU All-Time: Brown and St. Lawrence have met 80 times, with the Saints leading the all-time series, 42-28-10. St. Lawrence won the very first meeting, 6-3, on 12/19/52. In the early part of the series, St. Lawrence dominated Brown, winning eight straight games from 1981-1985 and going 10-0-2 from 2/13/87-1/9/93. Since the 1993 game, Brown has earned a 21-16-8 record. In addition, the Bears have earned at least one point against the Saints in each of the past 20 seasons, winning at least one game in 15 of the past 20 years. Brown earned three points against the Saints during the regular season last year, before the two teams met in the 2013-14 ECAC First Round, when the eighth-seeded Saints downed the ninth-seeded Bears in a pair of 3-2 contests at Appleton Arena.
Scouting Clarkson: Clarkson enters the weekend at 2-4-2 overall and will play Yale on Friday in the ECAC opener before heading to Providence. Clarkson returns 18 players from last year's team that finished fifth in the ECAC standings and beat Princeton in the ECAC First Round series before falling at Cornell in the quarterfinals. Joe Zarbo is back for his senior campaign and currently leads the Golden Knights with eight points on four goals and four assists. Steve Perry has started seven out of the nine games in net, and has a 2.50 GAA and a .882 save percentage.
Brown vs. Clarkson All-Time: Brown and Clarkson have met 86 times, with the Golden Knights leading the all-time series, 60-18-8. Brown dropped both games to the Golden Knights last season. Brown won the first-ever meeting, 6-5, in a neutral site game played at St. Lawrence in December of 1952. Clarkson dominated Brown during the early part of the series, winning 13 straight games from 1981-1987 and going 21-0-5 from March of 1992 to November of 2001. Brown has been more successful recently, earning a 10-14-3 record since February of 2002, including sweeping the series in 2004-05 and 2009-10.
Rookies Shine in Opener: Brown dressed eight freshmen in the season-opening victory at Army, consisting of five forwards and three defensemen. Charlie Corcoran and Max Willman both scored in their first collegiate games, while fellow rookies Sam Lafferty and Tyler Bird added one assist apiece.
Spreading the Wealth: Brown had 10 different players register one point in the season-opening win at Army. The Bears had at least 10 different players record at least one point in two games last season.
Facing Off: Mark Naclerio won 12 face-offs in the season opener at Army, followed by Davey Middleton, who won seven out of nine. Naclerio led the Bears with 413 wins for a .541 percentage last season.
Brown/Dunkin' Donuts Center to Host 2015 NCAA Regional: Brown will host the 2015 NCAA Men's Hockey East Regional at Providence's Dunkin' Donuts Center, marking the 10th NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament competition in Providence and second since 2013, which was also hosted by Brown. The Dunkin' Donuts Center, formerly known as the Providence Civic Center, has hosted the Frozen Four six times, and this will be the fourth time it has hosted regional competition. Game dates are Saturday, March 29th and Sunday, March 30th. Game times will be announced at a later date. Tickets are now on sale at Ticketmaster and at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Box Office. The regional winner earns a trip to the 2015 Frozen Four at the TD Garden in Boston, MA (April 9 & 11).
