
Men's Hockey to Open Season at Army Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team opens up the 2014-15 season on Friday, Oct. 31 when the Bears take a trip down to West Point to take on Army at 7 p.m. Links to live video and live stats will be available at www.brownbears.com.

All-Time in Season Openers: Since Brown's first season in 1897-98, the Bears are 36-50-4 in season-opening games. Brown earned its second straight season-opening victory last year when the Bears downed defending national champion Yale, 4-1, in the opening game of the Liberty Hockey Invitational.
Scouting Army: Army enters Friday's game at 2-3-1, all home conference games, and will play Brown in its first non-conference contest of the season. The Black Knights earned wins over Sacred Heart and Canisius, and most recently played a pair of games against Robert Morris, falling, 3-0, before a 3-3 tie. Maurice Alvarez and Tyler Pham both have four points on two goals and two assists, while Conor Andrle has four assists. Parker Gahagen has played five of the six games in net, posting a 2-2-1 record to go along with a 2.37 GAA and a .929 save percentage. Army went 6-28-0 overall and 5-22-0 in Atlantic Hockey last season, falling to fifth-seeded Robert Morris in the AHA First Round Tournament series.
Brown vs. Army All-Time: Brown leads the all-time series with Army, dating back to the 1933-34 season, by a 25-17-3 margin. The two teams last met on Nov. 17, 2012, when Brown picked up a 3-0 victory at home, led by Matt Lorito's hat trick.
2013-14 Season Recap: Brown went 11-17-3 overall and 8-13-1 in ECAC play last season, earning the ninth seed in the ECAC Tournament. The Bears battled No. 8 St. Lawrence in the best-of-three ECAC First Round, including a double overtime contest in the first game, but dropped a pair of 3-2 decisions on the road. For post-season honors, Dennis Robertson was named ECAC Co-Best Defensive Defenseman, Third Team All-ECAC and First Team All-Ivy. Matt Lorito was named Second Team All-Ivy, while Nick Lappin and Tyler Steel earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy accolades.
Team Captains: Senior Matt Lorito and Junior Mark Naclerio will serve as team captains this season, while junior Nick Lappin will serve as an assistant captain. Lorito, who was an assistant captain in 2013-14, enters the season with 83 career points and 36 career goals. Naclerio paced the Bears last year with 35 points and 16 goals, including four game-winning tallies. Lappin tied for the team-lead in assists (19) and power-play goals (5).
ECAC Preseason Polls: Brown was picked to finish seventh in both the 2014-15 ECAC Hockey Preseason Coaches and Media Association Polls. In the ECAC Coaches poll, Colgate was selected to finish first with 117 total points and seven first-place votes. Union, the defending national champion, was tabbed second with four first-place votes and 103 total votes. Cornell (90) was picked third, followed by Yale, Quinnipiac and Dartmouth. After Brown, Clarkson (58), Harvard (50), Rensselaer (42), St. Lawrence (24) and Princeton (11) rounded out the poll.
Brown/Dunkin' Donuts Center to Host 2015 NCAA Regional: Brown will host the 2015 NCAA Men's Hockey East Regional at Providence's Dunkin' Donuts Center, marking the 10th NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament competition in Providence and second since 2013, which was also hosted by Brown. The Dunkin' Donuts Center, formerly known as the Providence Civic Center, has hosted the Frozen Four six times, and this will be the fourth time it has hosted regional competition. Game dates are Saturday, March 29th and Sunday, March 30th. Game times will be announced at a later date. Tickets are now on sale at Ticketmaster and at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Box Office. The regional winner earns a trip to the 2015 Frozen Four at the TD Garden in Boston, MA (April 9 & 11).
