
2014-15 Men's Hockey Preview: Forwards

Under the direction of head coach Brendan Whittet, who is entering his sixth campaign at the helm, the 2014-15 Brown men's hockey team opens the season on October 31 at Army. In addition to 18 returnees, the Bears will add ten incoming freshmen to fill out the squad. With another tough slate this season, the Bears will play ten contests against teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament, including the last three National Champions and a home-and-home series against crosstown rival Providence College for the Mayor's Cup.
FORWARDS

- With 11 returning forwards, the Bears bring back 83 percent of the point production in the position, including the top three scorers in Mark Naclerio, Nick Lappin and Matt Lorito, who combined for 96 points last season.
- Naclerio and Lorito will serve as team captains this season, while Lappin will take the role as assistant captain.
- Naclerio, who was named to the ECAC Media Preseason All-Conference Team, is coming off a standout sophomore season when when led the Bears with 16 goals and 35 points. He also led the way with four game-winning goals and had nine multiple-point games. Naclerio was a three-time ECAC Player of the Week and the Player of the Month for January.
- Lorito, a two-time All-Ivy selection, enters the season with 89 career points. He logged 29 points last season after leading the team with 22 goals as a sophomore, when he was named Second Team All-ECAC.
- Lappin will step into the assistant captain role after an All-Ivy sophomore campaign when he tied for the team-lead in assists (19) and power-play goals (5). He paced the Bears with 21 points in conference play last season and had a pair of four-point contests.
- Seniors Ryan Jacobson, Massimo Lamacchia and Matt Harlow will add depth and veteran leadership up front. The trio combined for 23 points last season, led by Lamacchia with 10 points including a pair of goals against Frozen Four participant Boston College. He was later named ECAC Player of the Week for his efforts.
- Sophomores Zack Pryzbek, Kyle Kramer and Davey Middleton gained valuable minutes as freshmen last season, skating in 90 combined games. Kramer tied for second on the team with a pair of game-winning goals, highlighted by an overtime tally against Dartmouth to complete the comeback victory.
- Brown adds six newcomers on offense, including a trio of rookies who were selected in the 2014 NHL Draft, consisting of Sam Lafferty (Pittsburgh, 4th round, 113), Max Willman (Buffalo, 5th round, 121) and Tyler Bird (Columbus, 5th round, 137).
