Bears Win Four Night Races at Dartmouth

Hanover, N.H. – It may be springtime but Mother Nature is still affecting numerous sporting events in the northeast. Brown men's crew was forced to race a day earlier than anticipated, going off in the early evening as snow fall in Hanover on Saturday prevented any racing. The Bears were unaffected by the sudden time change and won all four races against the Big Green.
"Despite having to race a day early, it was a good night as the freshman, 3V and JV all pulled away with steady speed to solid, clear victories," said head coach Paul Cooke. "In the varsity, Dartmouth made a good push and took the lead from us, but our V8 boat put together a good second half and pulled out the win."
The boats were really moving on Friday night, as there were some quick conditions because of a strong current.
Both Brown and Dartmouth battled in the varsity eight in a very close race. Brown lead at the start, but a strong push by the Big Green put them ahead at the 1,000-meter mark. The Bears were able to regroup however, and pulled ahead late, taking the win by three quarters of a length.
The 2V8, 3V8 and F8 boats were all impressive, posting wins of at least four seconds in each race. Brown's rookie boat put up a great time of 5:15.9 on their way to almost a 10 second victory.
The Bears have one more race on April 30th at Princeton before head to the EARC Sprints on May 15th.
