Head coach Paul Cooke is eager to see his squad in action this season. "Our performance at the Tail of the Charles was not where it has been the last few years, said Cooke. "However, we did win the Head of the Genesee and we do have reasons to believe that the squad will come together this spring."
Brown begins its "second season" at home this year, which does hold some advantage. "It does make a difference to be on your home course, said Cooke. "Our river is different from others and the landmarks are well known. When you are going backwards down the river it helps to have a sense of where you are."
Not only will the Bears be looking to topple the Bulldogs in their season-opener, they will look to improve their skill sets, with their eyes peering towards a National Championship.
"This team will have to learn how to race well over the course of the season," stated Cooke. "We will have to improve our boat speed and our ability to be aggressive on the race course."
Even though Brown did not fare as well as it had hoped in the fall season, Cooke and the Bears are hopeful that the spring season will be where they turn it on.
"This squad as a whole, I believe, will contend for the points trophy and the position of strongest team in the East," remarked Cooke. "We have a lot of people developing well and it will be interesting to see who improves and who shows that they can make an impact in the race."
