
Syracuse Takes Down Brown, 85-40, In The Carrier Dome

Syracuse, New York – The Brown women's basketball
team's first visit to the famed Carrier Dome wasn't a
successful one, as the Bears dropped an 85-40 decision to Syracuse
in their final non-league game of the season.
Brown falls to 3-11 with the loss, while Syracuse extended its
record to 14-1 for the first time in the program's 39-year
history.
Senior Christina Johnson (photo right) led the Bears with nine
points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field, while sophomore Hannah Passafuime chipped in with six points.
Brown hung in with Syracuse in the early going, trailing by a
point, 8-7, on a jump shot by junior forward Sarah Delk with 15:46
left in the half. The athletic Orange held the Bears scoreless for
the next nine minutes, building a 21-7 lead, before sophomore guard
Lindsay Steele scored for Brown with 6:36 remaining to cut the lead
to 21-9.
Syracuse extended its lead to 32-13 at the half when Nicole Michael
scored for the Orange with 58 seconds remaining. The Bears were
held to just 18 percent shooting in the half, connecting on 5 of 28
field goals.
The Bears stayed with the taller Orange on the backboards for most
of the game, but were out-rebounded by a 45-33 margin. Syracuse
shot a torrid 10 of 22 (46-percent) from behind the three-point
arc.
Syracuse was led by Nicole Michael, who scored 19 points and pulled
down six rebounds. Juanita Ward netted 13 points and Kayla
Alexander tossed in 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Senior Natalie Bonds was Brown's rebounding leader seven
caroms, while scoring four points.
Brown opens its Ivy League season at home on Friday, January 15,
battling Yale in the first game of the Ivy League's 14-game
playoff to crown its champion. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the
Pizzitola Sports Center.
