PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown men's hockey sophomore goalie Mike Clemente (Great Falls, VA), the current ECAC Goalie of the Week,
has been named the Inside College Hockey National Player of the
Week.
Clemente was instrumental in leading the Bears to a 3-0-0 week,
with wins over Harvard (4-1), Princeton (3-1), and #4 Quinnipiac
(2-1). Clemente stopped 100 of 103 shots in the three games, while
allowing just a single goal in each game. Brown held 2-1 leads late
in all three games and Clemente's late-game composure was critical
to the Bears' success, especially against both Harvard and
Quinnipiac, which both held a two-player advantage for the final
minute of play.
On Tuesday against Harvard, he made 43 saves on 43 shots, including
all 18 in the first period, allowing Brown to take a 1-0 lead in
the game. On Friday against Princeton, he made 36 saves on 37
shots, including all 21 he faced during the first two periods,
while helped Brown take a 2-0 lead into the final period. On
Saturday night against the fourth-ranked Bobcats, Clemente needed
to make just 22 saves, thanks in large part to the aggressive play
of the Bears' defense, which blocked an additional 16 shots. Most
impressive in that game as the fact that the Bobcats came in
averaging four goals-per-game. Clemente became the first goalie
this season to limit Quinnipiac to less than three goals, as the
Bobcats had scored at least there goals in each of their previous
14 games.
For the week, Clemente posted a 1.00 GAA and a .971 save
percentage, while helping Brown move from 12th in the ECAC to its
current position of 7th. In 11 games, he currently has a 2.79 GAA
and a .915 save percentage.
Brown returns to action tonight when it hosts AIC in a 7:00 p.m.
non-league contest. It is Brown's final game of the semester and
final home game until January 29th. It also marks the final game
for Brown's toy drive. Any fan that brings a new, unwrapped toy to
the game will receive one free ticket per toy donated.
