Jerry Keefe joined the Brown staff as an assistant hockey coachin August of 2009 after spending two seasons as the head coach atWestfield State, where he restarted the hockey program at theschool, which had been dormant for 20 years.
While at Westfield, he recruited 27 student-athletes toWestfield State and in one season, led the Owls to an 11-9-4 recordand a playoff berth. Prior to serving as the head coach atWestfield State, Keefe served as an assistant coach at UMass-Bostonduring the 2006-07 season. Keefe also has coaching experience withUSA Hockey, serving in various roles, including the YankeeConference Team New England District Head Evaluator (2006-08), aninstructor for New England District Festivals (2006-07), a Coachfor the USA Hockey Select 17 Festival in St. Cloud, MN (2007-08),and a Coach for the Masssachusetts Satellite Program(2008-present).
A graduate of Providence College, Keefe was a four-year member ofthe Friars’ hockey team where he finished with 98 careerpoints in 102 games. During the 1998-99 season, Keefe led theFriars with 52 points in 37 games, the highest single-season pointtotal in 15 years, and was among the national leaders that seasonin both points and assists, earning New England Most ImprovedPlayer honors following the season.
Following his playing career at PC, Keefe began his professionalcareer at the end of the 2000 season with the Cincinnati MightyDucks (AHL) and the Trenton Titans (ECHL). He continued to play forfive years, including two seasons in Europe.
A native of Billerica, MA, Keefe was a three-time All-Scholasticplayer and a member of a State Championship team at Matignon HighSchool, earning MA Player of the Year honors in 1993. Prior toenrolling at Providence College, Keefe also played for the USNational Under 17 Team that won a Silver Medal in Tokyo in 1994 andthe U-16 Team that went 4-0 in Switzerland.
In 1995, he was the team MVP and the leading scorer for the OmahaLancers (USHL), leading the team in scoring for the second straightyear as a captain in 1996. He was twice named a USHL All-Star andstill ranks in the Lancers' all-time top ten scoring.
Keefe graduated from PC with a B.S. in Business Administration andcurrently resides in Saugus, MA with his wife, Maria, and theirson, Owen (4), and newborn daughter, Emmerson.
