Rob Lavallee came to Brown in the fall of 2021 as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. Lavallee currently oversees strength and conditioning responsibilities for Brown’s women’s crew, volleyball, gymnastics and women’s swimming and diving. Prior to coming to Brown, Lavallee held many roles in the human performance industry including working as a sports coach, private sector coach, and researcher.Â
From 2018 to 2020, Lavallee gained extensive knowledge in the world of human performance as a research assistant working under one of the top researchers in the northeast. During this time Lavallee worked on numerous studies that have been published in journals such as the NSCA’s Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. As a result, Lavallee has contributed to and presented at the NEACSM conference, as well as the NIH NIGMS Biennial National IDeA Symposium of Biomedical Research Excellence in Washington, DC. Some of Lavallee’s prior research includes work on contrast with compression technology, VO2 max testing, regional muscle oxygenation as a means to predict local muscular hypertrophy, and how sports science is being used in Major League Soccer (MLS).Â
While working in research, Lavallee also spent time in the private sector working with a variety of different athletes and age groups including high school, college, and professional athletes. During that time, he also served as assistant soccer coach at his hometown high school, overseeing all facets of strength and conditioning for the team. In his 3 years involved in the program, he contributed to 3 state semifinal appearances and 1 state championship.Â
In 2017 and 2018, Lavallee completed assistantships with the Franklin Pierce University (FPU) Strength and Conditioning department, as well as the school’s human performance lab. As a collegiate student-athlete himself, Lavallee was a 3-year letter winner at FPU while competing for the Men’s Soccer team.Â
Lavallee received his degree from FPU, majoring Health Sciences with a focus on Strength and Conditioning. Lavallee later earned his Master’s in Exercise Science with a focus in Kinesiology from the University of Rhode Island. He is also credentialed as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He further holds his Exos Performance Specialist Certification.
