2015: Made 14 appearances in the circle with 11 starts … Tossed 68.1 innings on the year … Finished the season with a 4-6 record and a 3.69 ERA … Struck out 36 total batters and 3.69 batters per game … Threw seven complete games … Tallied a 1.44 strikeout-to-walk ratio … Pitched eight innings and allowed just two runs, one earned, in 3-2 win at St. Mary’s (Mar. 24) … Earned the win in seven innings, giving up five runs, two earned, with five strikeouts vs. Penn (Apr. 3) … Won in final start, hurling seven innings and permitting four runs, two earned, with one strikeouts vs. Yale (Apr. 25).
2014: Appeared in 27 games, with 15 starts … Led the team with seven complete games and 103.0 innings pitched … Led the team with 71 strikeouts, tied for seventh in the Ivy League … Earned one win and averaged 4.83 K’s per game … Picked up the win in 1.2 innings of no-hit, shutout relief against Bucknell (Mar. 1) … Struck out a season-high eight batters in each of two games – vs. St. Francis (Mar. 15) and Columbia (Mar. 28).
2013: Served as a starting pitcher, making 21 appearances and 18 starts … Compiled a 5.72 ERA, the second best on the team and a 5-13 record over the on the season … Pitched 96.2 innings, allowing 85 runs and 120 hits … Struck out 41 batters … Recorded one hit in 13 at bats.
2012: Appeared in 23 games and made 18 pitching starts … Led the team with seven wins and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 1.6 … Struck out 68 batters in 115.1 innings pitched … Held lefties to a .289 batting average and achieved a 3.62 ERA in conference games.
Before Brown: An honor roll student for all four years at South High School … Received the President's Award for Educational Excellence and was a California Scholarship Foundation member … A three-year letter winner as a pitcher for South High School … Served as team captain during her senior year … Was a two-time Most Valuable Player and was named Female Athlete of the Season in 2010 … Selected to the Pioneer League First Team and the All-South Bay Second Team, and was also an All-CIF honoree … Three-time Spartan Laurel Award winner … Also a member of the South Bay All-Star Classic Softball team.
Personal: Jessica Cherness is the daughter of Jeff and April Cherness of Torrance, Calif. … She has three sisters, Melissa, who graduated from Cal State Long Beach, Michelle, who graduated from UC Santa Cruz, and Cindy … Her cousin Cristina plays basketball at Long Beach City College and her cousin Steven plays baseball at Cal State Los Angeles … Enjoys playing piano and volunteering … Concentrating in Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations (BEO).
