Mark Correia brings 19 years of softball coaching experience to his current position as a second-year assistant coach under Head Coach Kate Refsnyder.
Under Correia’s guidance, the 2023 team improved its Ivy League hitting statistics from the previous season in several major categories including; On-Base %, Slugging %, On-Base Plus Slugging %, Total Bases and Batting Average, while reducing its strikeout ratio by 6%.
In addition, after completing one of the most successful Ivy League seasons in program history, the 2023 team had 7 players named to the ALL-Ivy Team (second most in the league) including 2 First Team, 2 Second Team and 3 Honorable Mention.
Before joining the Brown staff, Correia spent five seasons as the Assistant and Hitting Coach for Eastern CT State University.
During his tenure at Eastern, the team compiled a record of 131-46 (.740 winning percentage) and competed in two Division 3 National Championships, finishing 5th in 2022 and 3rd in 2019. Under his guidance, Eastern consistently ranked among the top D3 hitting teams in the country in several major offensive categories. Correia was also an integral part of the staff which was recognized as the Division 3 New England Region Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2022 and 2019. In addition, Correia coached and assisted in the development of 5 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All Americans.
Correia is certified by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as an Endorsed Hitting Coach and also holds a 2-Star Master Coach Certification. In addition, he is a Certified Mental Performance coach through Brian Cain Peak Performance.
A New Bedford, Mass., native, Correia played four years of football under Walt Nadzak at the University of Connecticut (1979-82), helping the Huskies to a share of the Yankee Conference championship as a senior. Correia is a member of the New Bedford High School football and all-sports Halls of Fame and served as an ice hockey official for ten years. He holds a degree in education and sports marketing from UConn.
Prior to entering the college coaching profession, Correia was a corporate executive, business leader and entrepreneur. His final corporate venture was Owner/CEO of Preventure, Inc., a national leader in corporate health & wellbeing. He sold the company to Virgin Pulse in 2018.
Correia resides in Coventry, RI and Siesta Key, Fl with his wife Joyce. They have two daughters, Kerry and Jamie.
