Katie Camacho Orona '18 was brought on as an assistant coach for the Brown softball program in September of 2023.
Camacho Orona returns to the Bears after playing at Brown from 2015-2018. While at Brown, Camacho Orona was named All-Ivy Honorable Mention and was Brown Softball's Rookie of the Year in 2015. She was named an NFCA Academic Scholar Athlete in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Camacho Orona finished her career with 246 strikeouts, which still ranks fourth all-time in Brown program history.
As a junior, Camacho Orona made 17 starts and appeared in 22 games with a 3.46 ERA and 51 strikeouts. In 97 innings pitched, Camacho Orona posted a 1.38 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
During her sophomore season, Camacho Orona was ranked second in the Ivy League in complete games (15), third in total strikeouts (93), fourth in innings (130.1), and sixth in wins (nine) ... Camacho Orona Posted a 3.01 ERA, 9-10 record and 4.99 strikeouts per game. She tallied a 1.98 strikeout-to-walk ration and was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week twice.
Camacho Orona shined her first season on College Hill, earning Honorable Mention All-Ivy, ranking second in the Ivy League in ERA (2.23) and fifth in strikeouts per game (5.87). She tallied a 1.74 strikeout-to-walk ratio, finishing the season with 92 strikeouts in 109.2 innings pitched. Camacho Orona won Ivy League Rookie of the Week three times, Ivy Pitcher of the Week once and ECAC Rookie of the Week once.
Camacho Orona graduated from Brown with a B.A. in Public Heath with Honors in 2018 and earned a Master of Public Health from the Brown University School of Public Health in 2019. She is currently working toward a PhD in Health Policy from Harvard.
