DJ Petty is in his second season on Brown's coaching staff in 2025-26. Petty joined the Brown coaching staff ahead of the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach, working primarily with the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers.
In his first season, jumper Jada Joseph earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in the triple jump. Petty also assisted with multiple school records being broken including Elle Riley in the 60 meter hurdles and 100 meter hurdles. The men's 4x100 meter relay team also set a school record during the outdoor season.
Most recently before coming to College Hill, Petty was an assistant coach for two years at Amherst College, specializing in creating in-depth programming tailored for each individual athlete. He spent two seasons at Amherst as the leader of the sprints, hurdles and relays.
The staff at Amherst won the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year Award in 2024, leading two Division III All-Americans, four Division III National Qualifiers and two NESCAC event winners in his time at Amherst.
While earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Exercise Studies from Randolph College, Petty won three conference championships in two different events (60m hurdles, 110m hurdles). Petty earned a Master of Arts in Coaching & Sport Leadership in 2021 while serving as a graduate assistant at his alma mater before being hired as a full time assistant the following season.
