Craig Kinsley ’11, a 2010 NCAA National Champion and 2012 Olympian, joined the Brown track & field coaching staff in December 2016 and spent seven seasons on the Bears’ staff through the 2022-23 season. Serving as the team's throws coach, Kinsley was promoted to Associate Head Track & Field Coach in February 2023.
In his tenure at Brown, Kinsley coached:
- 4 school record holders
- 2 All-Americans
- 3 NCAA qualifiers
- 15 NCAA East Regional qualifiers
- 5 Ivy League Champions
- 14 Ivy League Runners Up
- 55 Ivy League Scorers
During the 2022 outdoor season, Kinsley coached Erin McMeniman who improved the school record in the javelin three times; the final time at the NCAA East Regional where she punched her ticket to the NCAA Championship with a throw of 51.22m. This mark was nearly four meters over the previous record and ranks her second all-time in the Ivy League.
Also in 2022, Kegan Schroeter was the men’s Ivy champion in the weight throw indoors and went on to break the school record in the hammer, throwing 68.79m for fifth all-time in Ivy history.
Kinsley, the 2010 NCAA National Champion in the javelin, returned to College Hill after competing professionally from 2011 to 2016, when he lived at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
Kinsley boasted a personal best throw of 82.31m/270-0 in 2012, earning him a spot at the 2012 London Olympics where he was the top American finisher at the Games.
Kinsley, who also competed in the high jump at Brown, was a three-time NCAA All-American and a four-time Ivy League champion in the javelin. He was named a three-time Academic All-American by the USTFCCCA and was also named the Northeast Region Field Athlete of the Year in 2010.
The school record holder in the javelin, Kinsley graduated from Brown in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Geosciences and Economics. At Brown, he was a three-time Academic All-Ivy selection and served as team captain as a senior during the 2010-11 campaign.
Kinsley served as a coach at the U.S. Training Center from 2012-2016 for Sean Furey (javelin), during which time he won two U.S. Championships (2014 and 2015), and earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team in the 2016 Rio Games. Kinsley previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at Brown in 2011-12.
