
Five New Top-10 Marks and Five First Place Finishes Highlights Track and Field at Penn Relays and UMass

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown track and field programs wrapped up their final two-meet weekend of the season on Saturday. With athletes at both the Penn Relays and the Ken O'Brien Pre-Conference Meet at UMass Amherst, three individuals and two relay teams set top-10 school marks.Â
At the Penn Relays, senior Nimrit Ahuja ran the second fastest 3000m steeplechase in school history with a time of 10:05.67, beating her previous personal record by 22.1 seconds. The distance medley relay team of Emily Mrakovcic, Katrina Sortland, Julia Schriefer, and Olivia Fraga set the third fastest time in school history with an 11:28.28 finish. Cameron Walter, Jake Haley, Colin Fisher, and Aaron Caveney came together and set the fifth fastest 4x800m time in school history and freshman Jaden Stewart's 15.30m triple jump earned him the 10th best mark in school history. At the Ken O'Brien meet, sophomore Lydia Kentis placed herself eighth all-time in school history in the discus with a 46.48m throw. Â
WOMEN
Along with her help in the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays, Schriefer also ran in the 1500m championship, earning a time of 4:22.34. Senior Nene Mokonchu finished in a three-way tie for sixth place in the high jump (1.65m).
At UMass, along with Kentis's second place finish in the discus, junior Danielle Meribe finished fourth with a throw of 42.93m. Out of 15 throwers in the hammer throw, sophomore Giana DeCesare finished second (51.38m), senior Zoe Carter-Konate finished third (51.20m), and junior Jillian Leahy finished fourth (50.62m). In the shot put, freshman Angela Volkova captured third place (12.96m) and Kentis finished sixth (12.41m).
In the 800m, junior Scarlet Stimson finished third overall with a time of 2:15.75 and sophomore Bria Benigni finished sixth overall with a time of 2:17.04. Junior Veronica Ambrosionek placed fifth in the 5000m with a time of 17:30.31 and junior Julia Soderbery placed 13th out of 39 runners in the 1500m with a time of 4:40.07.
Freshman Joyce Olawaiye placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 11.96m. Sophomore Adanna Obuba tied for fourth place in the high jump (1.60m). In the long jump, junior Naa Adua Annan placed seventh with a 5.28m jump.Â
MEN
Five different Bears were winners of their events on Saturday in Amherst. Freshman Duncan Frisbie-Smith was the 800m winner out of 22 runners, finishing with a time of 1:51.94. Sophomore John Mueller was the winner of the 400m hurdles (53.26). In the 1500m, freshman Dermot Maloney finished 15th out of 32 runners with a time of 3:59.71 and sophomore Luke Bodden finished 18th with a time of 4:01.98.
Senior Frank Monahan-Morang won the long jump (6.87m) and freshman Jerald Evangelista followed, finishing second with a distance of 6.74m. Freshman Sean Wilton and junior Karon Johnson competed in the shot put, with Wilton placing third (15.40m) and Johnson placing fourth (15.35m).
Freshman Sebastian Hess won the discus throw with a 48.63m throw. Freshman Onyekachi Ikpe finished fourth (45.55m) and freshman Grayson He finished sixth (42.83m). Junior Ethan Wordell was the winner of the hammer throw at a distance of 60.94m. Hess also competed in the hammer throw and placed fifth (48.41m).
Brown will now turn its attention to the Jay Carisella Invitational hosted by Northeastern University in Boston next Saturday, May 2.Â
