Matt Perper joined the Brown coaching staff as an assistant coach in February of 2019. Â
Â
Perper comes to Brown from UMass Lowell, where he served as an assistant coach for the 2018 season, and helped the River Hawks to a 25-win season and the No. 2 seed in the America East postseason tournament. Perper worked with the River Hawk pitching staff that paced the conference in opposing batting average with a pair of all-conference honorees.
Â
Prior to UMass Lowell, Perper spent the 2016 season as an assistant coach at Southern New Hampshire. The Penmen put together a 43-11 record and advanced to the NCAA East Regional Finals. He previously served as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Iona College from 2013-16, where he coached five All-MAAC selections.
Â
The Western Connecticut State '09 alum coached at his alma mater from 2010-2013, where he developed some of the region's best hitters. Under his tutelage, the Colonials had nine All-Little East selections, six All-New England selections, two All-Americans and one New England Player of the Year. During the 2011-12 season, Perper saw his team lead all of Division III in home runs and home runs per game, while ranking eighth in slugging percentage. The program's all-time hit record was broken three times in four years, and Perper saw Conor Bierfeldt drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 29th round of the 2013 MLB Draft.
Perper graduated from Western Connecticut with a bachelor's degree in communication studies.Â
