Women’s Soccer Hosts Providence College for Crosstown Cup on Thursday Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer hosts Providence College for the Crosstown Cup on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Stevenson-Pincince Field in the hosts' non-league finale with the Bears bringing a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) into the matchup.

Scouting the Bears (5-2-1)

The Bears have notched an undefeated 3-0-1 record over their last four matches with wins over UMass (4-1), No. 13 UCF (7-0), and Hofstra (2-1) alongside a draw against URI (1-1).
Brown has posted a 4-0-0 record at home thus far in 2026, earning wins over New Haven (4-0), UConn (1-0), UMass (4-1), and No. 13 UCF (7-0). The Bears have outscored their opponents 16-1 in home matches. In matches played in the state of Rhode Island, Brown remains unbeaten (4-0-1) alongside its draw at URI (Sept. 10).
In the Bears' final non-league road match of the year, senior Angelina Vargas scored a pair of goals, Kia McNeill – the Messing Family Head Coach for Brown Varsity Women's Soccer – earned her 100^th career win, and Brown beat Hofstra, 2-1, on Sept. 13 in Hempstead, New York.
In the NCAA rankings, the Bears stand ninth in corner kicks per game (8.50), 24^th in assists per game (2.63), 33^rd in points per game (7.38), and 39^th in goals per game (2.38).
As a team in the Ivy rankings, Brown ranks second in goals (19), goals per game (2.38), assists (21), assists per game (2.63), points (59), points per game (7.38), scoring margin (1.13), shots (135), shots per game (16.88), shots on goal (62), shots on goal per game (7.75), corner kicks (68), and corner kicks per game (8.50).
Senior Angelina Vargas – the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14 – has registered team highs in points (10), goals (five), and game-winning goals (three) on the season. She ranks first in the Ivy League and seventh in the NCAA in game-winning goals (three), while also standing second in the Ancient Eight in goals (five) and third in points (10). Vargas netted the game-winner against both New Haven (Aug. 20) and UConn (Aug. 27), netted a goal at URI (Sept. 10), and posted her first career brace at Hofstra (Sept. 13).
Junior Ayla Sahin has tallied six points on the season behind three goals. She ranks fourth in the Ivy League in goals (three) and seventh in points (six). Sahin netted her first career brace against UMass (Sept. 3) and added a goal vs. No. 13 UCF (Sept. 6).
Senior Corine Gregory has notched six points on the year behind two goals and two assists. She ranks seventh in the Ivy League in points (six). Gregory notched a career-high five points on two goals and one assist vs. No. 13 UCF (Sept. 6).
Junior defender Kyra Treanor has posted six points on the season behind two goals and two assists, while ranking second on the team in minutes played (704). Treanor stands seventh in the Ivy League in points (six). She scored one goal piece in games against New Haven (Aug. 20) and UMass (Sept. 3).
Senior Joy Okonye, a member of the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, has posted four points on the year behind one goal and three assists. Okonye ranks second in the Ivy League in shots on goal (13), third in assists (three), and fourth in shots (23). A two-time First Team All-Ivy selection and the 2025 Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, Okonye has totaled 36 career points behind nine goals and 18 assists over 59 career games played and 56 starts. Her 18 career assists rank in a tie for seventh in program history while her 36 career points sit just outside the program's top 25.
Freshman Georgia Steinbach has registered five points on the season behind two goals and one assist. Steinbach has scored one goal in each of two games – vs. New Haven (Aug. 20) and vs. No. 13 UCF (Sept. 6).
Senior defender Claire Silverman leads Brown with four assists on the year, ranking second in the Ivy League in assists (four). She notched a career-high three assists vs. No. 13 UCF (Sept. 6).
Junior defender Brooke Birtwistle has played all 720 minutes on the season, helping the Bears post three shutouts as a team on the year.
Sophomore goalkeeper Addison Etter has played in seven games with four starts, posting a 1.43 GAA. She registered her first shutout of the season against No. 13 UCF (Sept. 6).
In front of a crowd of 1,215 fans, senior Corine Gregory posted two goals and an assist, and first-year Georgia Steinbach, junior Ayla Sahin, sophomore Jael-Marie Guy, and first-year Maja Cenanovic each scored once as Brown powered past then No. 13 UCF, 7-0, on Sept. 6 at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
With the win over UCF, Brown scored seven or more goals against a Power Four conference team for the first time in program history. Overall, the Bears netted seven or more goals for the 13^th time in program history and hit the mark for just the third time since 1996. In 2022, Brown topped Stonehill, 11-0, and Springfield, 7-2. Prior to that, the program's last game with seven or more goals came in 1995 with an 8-0 win over CCSU.
Brown (98 points, two first-place votes) took the No. 3 spot in the 2026 Ivy League Women's Soccer Preseason Poll behind first-place Princeton (120 points, 10 first-place votes) and second-place Dartmouth (109 points, four first-place votes).
Now in her 11^th season at Brown, Kia McNeill, the Messing Family Head Coach for Brown Varsity Women's Soccer, has posted a 100-37-24 overall record alongside a 42-12-8 Ivy League mark.

Scouting the Friars (2-0-6)

Providence has posted an undefeated 2-0-6 mark on the season. The Friars stand as one of 26 remaining unbeaten teams in the nation.
Jocy Koffi leads the team with 11 points on the season behind five goals and one assist while Signe Tingager has tallied eight points on three goals and two assists.
The Friars have featured three goalkeepers on the year, including Caitlin Daley (356 minutes, 0.51 GAA), Maria Ravotti (270 minutes, 1.67 GAA), and Ava Ripanti (94 minutes, 0.95 GAA).
In 2025, PC went 6-6-4 overall with a 3-4-3 mark in Big East play.

History

Brown leads the all-time series with Providence, 24-12-0.
The Bears have captured three of the last four meetings.
In the last meeting, Brown took a 4-0 decision at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Sept. 17, 2025. Joy Okonye, Naya Cardoza, Ayla Sahin, and Angelina Vargas each scored a goal for the Bears.
