Women’s Soccer Hosts UConn Thursday Night at Stevenson-Pincince Field

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer hosts the University of Connecticut in its second home match of the 2026 season on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

Scouting the Bears (1-1-0)

In Brown's season and home opener, senior Angelina Vargas, junior Kyra Treanor, and first-years Taylor Green and Georgia Steinbach each scored a goal as the Bears earned a 4-0 victory over the University of New Haven on Aug. 20 at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Senior Joy Okonye earned a spot on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List announced on Aug. 26. A two-time First Team All-Ivy selection and the 2025 Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, Okonye has totaled 32 career points behind eight goals and 16 assists over 53 career games played and 50 starts. Her 16 career assists rank 11^th in program history.
Among 2025 All-Ivy choices, Brown returns Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Ivy selection Joy Okonye and also brings back three 2025 Second Team All-Ivy honorees in Corine Gregory, Audrey Lam, and Ayla Sahin as well as 2025 Honorable Mention All-Ivy pick Brooke Birtwistle.
Okonye posted 19 points on seven goals and five assists a season ago while Sahin notched 11 points behind five goals and one assist. Gregory added eight points on four goals while Lam and Birtwistle both started all 17 games.
Other experienced players from last season's team include Angelina Vargas (nine points, three goals, three assists), Jael-Marie Guy (seven points, three goals, one assist), Kyra Treanor (17 games played, 16 games started), Nadja Meite (17 games played, 13 starts), and Chesney Robinson (14 games played, 14 starts).
In 2025, the Bears went 9-4-4 overall and 3-2-2 in Ivy League play, qualifying for the Ivy League Tournament before falling in the event's semifinals.
In goal, Addison Etter returns after making four appearances with three starts and a 1.59 GAA last fall as does Gurleen Toor who played in four games with two starts and a 0.00 ERA.
Brown (98 points, two first-place votes) took the No. 3 spot in the 2026 Ivy League Women's Soccer Preseason Poll behind first-place Princeton (120 points, 10 first-place votes) and second-place Dartmouth (109 points, four first-place votes).
Brown welcomes a group of 10 newcomers to the team this fall in a Class of 2030 that includes Charlie Banbury, Danielle Bobowski, Maja Cenanovic, Sydney Dunn, Taylor Green, Madison Malek, Bianca Putanec, Georgia Steinbach, Chloe Shin, and Anya Tansil.
Now in her 11^th season at Brown, Kia McNeill, the Messing Family Head Coach for Brown Varsity Women's Soccer, has posted a 96-35-23 overall record alongside a 42-12-8 Ivy League mark.

Scouting the Huskies (1-0-2)

UConn has opened the season with a 1-0-2 record behind a victory over Boston University (2-1) and draws against Stony Brook (2-2) and Rutgers (0-0).
Alayna Taylor leads the team in points (four) and goals (two) while Ines Nourani has added three points on one goal and one assist.
In goal, Lily Onorato has played all 270 minutes for the Huskies, posting a 1.00 GAA.
For the 2025 season, UConn posted an 11-4-3 overall record with a 7-1-2 mark in Big East play. The Huskies season concluded in the semifinals of the Big East tournament.

History

Brown trails UConn in the all-time series, 9-21-2.
The Bears have captured the last three meetings in the series with victories in 2019 (2-0), 2021 (5-0), and 2025 (1-0).
In the last meeting between the two sides, the Bears took a 1-0 road win over the Huskies on Aug. 28, 2025. Ayla Sahin scored the game-winning goal in the 20^th minute.
