NEW YORK - Andrew Reall (197 lbs) became the first Brown wrestling (5-9) conference champion since 2012 after winning his weight class at the 2026 Ivy League Wrestling Tournament on Sunday at Levien Gymnasium. No. 19/17 Reall entered as the top seed at 197 lbs and earned two victories en route to becoming the first-ever Brown conference champion at his weight class. The win also clinched a spot in the 2026 NCAA Championship for the sophomore. The Bears finished with 79 total points, good for fifth place.Â
"With as old and historic as the Ivy League is, there aren't a lot of firsts. But since this is only the second year that wrestling has competed in an Ivy League championship it is fun to experience some firsts,"Â Marvin Wilenzik '56 Head Coaching Chair for Brown Wrestling Jordan Leen said. "Last year we had one placer and one national qualifier. This year we had three placers, two finalists, and our first champ! It is nice to see the progress. Speaking of progress: Austin McBurney! Last year he was 2-14. This year he is 21-13 and an NCAA qualifier."
"it is nice to see our guys peaking at the right time. We love the way they compete. I am excited to see what McBurney, Reall, and Semenenko are able to accomplish in Cleveland."
After receiving a bye in the first round, Reall dominated his way to a 10-2 major decision over NA/No. 47 Aiden Hanning (Cornell) in the semifinals. In the championship match against NA/No. 33 Jack Wehmeyer (Columbia), Reall found himself in a stalemate during his championship match, but was able to secure a win in a sudden victory decision, 4-1.Â
With two wins today, Reall moved to 34-4 on the season, placing him in sole possession of third place in program history for wins in a single season, and the first conference champion since Dave Foxen won the 174 lb bracket in 2012.
Brown's heavyweight, No. 27/No. 22 Alex Semenenko (285), also received a bye in the first round. In the semis, entering as the No. 2 seed, Semenenko defeated NA/No. 49 John Pardo (Penn) via decision, 4-1. In the championship round, Semenenko squared off against No. 26/No. 15 and top-seeded Vincent Mueller (Columbia), falling 8-1 via decision and finishing in second place. His performance is the first time a Brown heavyweight finished runner-up since Ian Butterbrodt did so in 2019.Â
NA/No. 38 Khimari Manns (141) picked up a victory in his first match, earning a hard-fought 4-2 decision against NA/No. 55 Dante Frinzi (Harvard). In the semifinals, Manns dropped a competitive bout via decision, 14-11, against No. 9/No. 6 CJ Composto (Penn).
In the consolation brackets, NA/No. 35 Austin McBurney (149) outperformed his sixth seed ranking with a third-place finish that qualifies him for the NCAA Championships later this month. McBurney defeated NA/No. 34 Jack Crook (Harvard) via major decision, 12-2, and avenged his only loss of the day by winning an 8-2 decision against No. 18/No. 14 Eligh Rivera (Princeton). The win over Rivera marks McBurney's first ranked victory of the season.Â
NA/No. 43 Ethan Mojena (157) finished in fifth place after earning a 3-2 decision over NA/No. 39 Rocco Camillaci (Princeton). NA/No. 43 Max Norman (165) picked up his 22nd win of the season and his eighth pinfall with a victory against Benny Rogers (Cornell) in 4:15. In the third place bout, Norman lost a hotly contested match against No. 19/No. 17 Sean Seefeldt (Penn) via a sudden victory decision, 2-1, finishing fourth overall.Â
NA/No. 47 Drew Clearie (174) beat NA/No. 42 Caden Bellis (Penn) via decision, 9-4, leading to a third-place match against No. 32/No. 29 Holden Garcia (Princeton). Clearie dropped the match against Garcia via decision, 8-2, and finished fourth overall.Â
After all the conference tournaments have concluded, the NCAA DI Wrestling Committee will meet in person to select the remaining 42 at-large qualifiers, which will be announced on March 10. Brackets and seeding will be announced on NCAA.com at 8 p.m. on March 11. Semenenko and McBurney are expected to earn at-large selections and join Reall in Cleveland for nationals.Â
