
Fencing Competes at 2026 Northeast Regionals

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Brown fencing program had 12 fencers compete at the 2026 NCAA Northeast Regionals on Sunday in Walker Field House. Ashley Luo led the way with a sixth‑place finish in epee, followed by Ibla Vadasz in 10th for sabre and Jessie Chen in 11th for foil.
In epee, Luo posted a strong 14-9 overall record to secure her sixth‑place finish. She went 3-3 in round two to advance, surged to a 5-1 mark in round three, and closed out round four at 6-5. Amy Mao earned 16th place with a 9-7 record, opening with a 3-1 first round, going 4-2 in round two, and finishing 2-4 in round three. Kira Nguyen placed 20th at 8-8 overall, starting 3-1 in round one, adding a 4-2 second round, and ending 1-5 in round three. Dasha Smuk went 1-3 in the opening round.
In sabre, Vadasz finished 10th overall with an 11-12 record. She went 3-3 in both rounds two and three before closing round four at 4-6. Soph Bililies delivered a strong 10-6 performance to take 15th, opening with a perfect 4-0 first round, followed by a 4-2 second round, and a 2-4 finish in round three. Alexandra Tzou placed 29th at 4-6, going 2-2 in round one and 2-4 in round two. Alyssa Sun finished 39th after a 2-2 opening round.
In foil, Jessie Chen earned 11th place with a 10-13 record. She put together an impressive 5-1 second round, followed by a 3-3 third round, and closed with a 2-9 mark in round four. Grace Li took 23rd with a 2-4 record in round two, while Apoorva Talwalkar finished 36th at 2-2.
The Bears await NCAA Championship bids, which will be announced on Tuesday, March 10, when NCAA selections are posted to NCAA.com. The 2026 NCAA Division I National Championships will take place at Notre Dame from March 19-22. This year, the NCAA will separate men's and women's team champions for the first time since 1989.
