PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown senior gymnast Sophia Dewar has been selected as the Gymnastics East Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
A consistent force for the Bears all season, Dewar delivered another trio of strong performances this past Sunday in a dual meet win over SUNY Cortland. She started off the meet with a first place finish on vault at 9.750, then tied for fifth on bars at 9.700, then finished off the meet by tying her career-high on floor at 9.875 to take first place.
Her performance on bars helped Brown post the eighth-best score on the event (48.875) in program history, and the team's total score of 194.900 ranks sixth in program history.
Dewar becomes the fourth gymnast to win a weekly GEC honor this season, joining Liza Marcus (January 14) and Lindsey Yang (January 21), both of whom previously won gymnast of the week, as well as Rookie of the Week Rehna Saalinger (January 14).
The Bears will host Senior Day and Alumnae Day this coming Sunday, March 8 at the Pizzitola Sports Center at 2 p.m. when they will welcome Bridgeport, LIU, and Southern Connecticut State.
