
Men’s Tennis Splits Sunday Doubleheader with Win Over Sacred Heart, Loss to St. John’s

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team (13-6) split its doubleheader with a 4-3 loss to St. John's (12-2) and a 7-0 victory over Sacred Heart (4-8) on Sunday inside the Pizzitola Sports Center.
In doubles play against St. John's, Zander Bravo and Noah Hernandez opened the day with a competitive effort but fell 6-4 to Radomir Tomic and Danilo Raicevic. Ivan Sodan and Lukas Phimvongsa delivered a sharp 6-1 win over Armando Sotelo and Venedikt Tsirikidze, while Cole Oberg and Elliot Wasserman were topped by Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy, 6-2.
In singles, Sodan was edged by Tomic in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(2). Phimvongsa earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Agynskyy, and Hernandez fell to Sergej Zivkovic with a 6-3, 6-4 result. Robert Yang added a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sotelo, and Wasserman followed with another 7-6, 6-3 win against Taichi Wakamatsu. Bravo fell to Tsirikidze with a 7-6, 6-3 decision.
In doubles play against Sacred Heart, Hernandez and Bravo secured a win by taking down Tomasz Garbacz and Connor Liona 6-4. Sodan and Phimvongsa battled through a tight set before earning a 7-5 victory over Paul Goncalves and Brennan Hart‑Nova. Oberg and Wasserman topped Martin Macias and Vayo Rodriguez with a 6-1 result.
In singles action, Phimvongsa finished with a strong 6-2, 6-1 win over Garbacz, while Hernandez followed with a 6-1, 6-2 performance against Frederick McRae. Robert Yang added another win, defeating Darren Huang 6-1, 6-1. Wasserman kept up the winning with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Liona, and Alex Koong delivered a 6-0, 6-1 win over Arya Alla. Oberg defeated Milan Karajovic with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Brown will host another doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 21 when it welcomes Bryant at 10 a.m. and Stonehill at 4 p.m. inside the Pizzitola Sports Center.
