INDIANAPOLIS – Two Brown fencers, Jessie Chen (foil) and Ashley Luo (epee), earned selections to the 2026 NCAA Fencing Championship, announced on Tuesday. Chen will represent the Bears for the second consecutive season, with Luo receiving a national bid for the first time.
Notre Dame will host the championships on March 19-22. Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After the round robin, the top four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place. An institution's finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.
Chen went 10-13 in foil for an 11-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, going 4-1 in the second round, followed by a 3-3 third round performance and two wins in the final round.
Luo went 14-9 for a sixth-place finish in epee at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
