2/21/2026 3:21:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ennis Udo tallied the overtime winner for the Brown Bears (2-0, 0-0 Ivy League) as they took an 8-7 Ocean State Cup win over the Providence College Friars (2-2, 0-0 Big East) Saturday afternoon at Chapey Field.
"Once again, I'm just really proud of our team's effort; they gutted out a really hard-fought win against a very well-coached and talented Providence team," the Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men's Lacrosse Jon Torpey said. "February lacrosse is usually never pretty, but credit to our defense for stepping up when we needed them to and credit to our offense for getting the job done at the end.
"We've got to regroup and recover for a battle on Tuesday against another rival in UMass."
Brown and Providence traded goals through the first 20 minutes of the game with Ben Scandone, Marcus Wertheim, and Jackson Wolfram finding the back of the net for the Bears.
Jameson Steele gave Brown a 4-3 lead with five minutes remaining in the second quarter and Oliver Bligh pushed the lead to 5-3 with 4:50 remaining off the ensuing faceoff.
After Parker Kennedy brought the Friars within one goal early in the third quarter, Wertheim tallied his second of the game with seven seconds remaining in the third to give the Bears a 6-4 lead heading into the final frame.
Clinging to a one-goal lead, Steele struck for his second of the game with one minute remaining to make it 7-5. From there, Ian Olenik and Jay Wilkerson scored in the final minute to force overtime.
With possessions for both teams in overtime, Udo sealed the rivalry win with 1:25 remaining in the extra period.
