Women's Water Polo Routs Santa Clara in Saturday Split

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Brown women's water polo (7-3) split two games on Saturday (Feb. 14) at the Bronco Invitational. The Bears began the day with an 8-4 loss to No. 18 San Jose State, before closing out the night with an 18-7 win over Santa Clara.
No. 18 SAN JOSE STATE 8, BROWN 4
The Bears dropped the first game of the day to San Jose State 8-4. Aubrie Anderson, Alexandra Love, Megan Newby and Samantha Kim all scored for the Bears.
Brown had a 2-1 lead after the first period and was up 3-2 at the half but San Jose State took over the game with a 4-1 advantage in the third quarter.
The Bears were shutout in the final eight minutes as the Spartans closed out the game with a single goal in the fourth.
BROWN 18, SANTA CLARA 7
The Bears cruised in the second game of the day, taking down Santa Clara 18-7. Sofia Holman led all scorers for the Bears with four goals. Madeleine Poissonnier, Hanna Homma, Aubrie Anderson and Ella Palmer all netted two goals.
Six other Bears finished the game with one goal.
Brown began the game with a 5-3 lead after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 8-4 at the halftime break.
To start the second half, Brown took control of the game with a 5-0 third quarter. The Bears extended the lead with a 5-3 advantage in the last eight minutes.

Brown will close out play at Santa Clara with a matchup with Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday (Feb. 15) at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT.
