CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – The Brown women's tennis team (5-3) fell to Baylor (3-3) 5-2, in a neutral setting match on Friday afternoon.
"Today's match against Baylor was a great opportunity for our team to test their competitive skills and abilities against a top program," Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
Opening with doubles, Dani Ben-Abraham and Hannah Shen lost their match at the first line to Zuzanna Kubacha and Neda Rahimkhani, 6-1. At the second line, Abigail Lee and Chloe Qin fell to Na Dong and Mu-Jie Tzeng, 6-3, giving Baylor the doubles point.
"While we were outmatched in some matches and couldn't sustain the level of play necessary to make our opponents uncomfortable, Sari, Annie and Abbey showed a lot of fight and problem-solving abilities in their matches," commented Schmidhauser.
In singles play, Hannah Shen fell to No. 62 Na Dong at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2. No. 89 Zuzanna Kubacha took the top flight over Ali Maguy, 6-2, 6-2 and Kennedy Gibbs defeated Dani Ben-Abraham, 6-2, 6-3. Sari Woo earned Brown's first point of the match at the sixth line, defeating Luna Ivkovic, 6-4 and 6-1. Abigail Lee faced No. 98 MuJie Tzeng at the fourth line, battling it out in three sets. She lost the first set 6-3, won the second set 7-5, but fell in the third final set 10-2. Anne Yang secured Brown's final point of the day with a 6-4, 2-6, 14-12 victory over Alian Zack.
"Sari played her best match of the season so far, winning comfortably in two sets. Even though Abbey lost her match in 3 sets, I was impressed by her competitiveness and fight to come back and take the match into the third set," Schmidhauser continued.
"Annie battled hard in her 3-sets victory. She showed a lot of courage closing out the first set and didn't get rattled by losing the 2nd. She left it all on the court in her 14-12 tiebreaker win, playing some great tennis." Schmidhauser concluded.
