
Men’s Tennis Earns Wins Over Holy Cross and Marist

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team (4-0) earned a 7-0 victory over Holy Cross (1-2) and a 6-1 win over Marist (1-0) on Sunday inside the Pizzitola Sports Center.
In doubles against Holy Cross, Ivan Sodan and Zander Bravo opened with a 6-4 win over Matt Carlson and Patrick Ling. Elliot Wasserman and Theo Murphy fell 6-7 to Ezequiel De la Plaza and Teddy Callery. TheBears closed doubles action with a 6-4 victory from Toby Luo and Lukas Phimvongsa over Aayush Jhaveri and Colton Parker.
The Bears controlled singles from start to finish against Holy Cross. Sodan defeated Carlson, 6-1, 7-5, and Phimvongsa followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over De la Plaza. Robert Yang added a 6-1, 6-1 result against Ling, while Alex Koong posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Callery. Murphy also earned a win over Camilo Illanes, 7-6, 6-3, and Luo completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 performance against Jhaveri.
In doubles action against Marist, Sodan and Bravo delivered a dominant 6-0 win over Anirudh Nallaparaju and Jose Catala, followed by a 6-2 win from Wasserman and Murphy against Ian Layton and Thomas Bevan. Phimvongsa and Luo completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory over Alejandro Abella Fernandez and Gregor Heinemann.
Brown maintained control in singles as Sodan earned a win over Catala, 6-3, 7-6, and Phimvongsa added a 6-1, 6-2 result against Layton. Wasserman battled through a tight three‑setter before falling to Abella Fernandez, 6-1, 4-6, 5-7, but the Bears responded with a pair of strong finishes. Yang edged Nallaparaju in a competitive match tiebreak, 6-2, 6-7(4), 1-0(11), and Koong posted a steady 6-4, 6-3 win over Bevan. Luo closed out the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Heinemann.
Brown will continue action on Friday, Feb. 6, when they welcome Boston College to the Pizzitola Sports Center at 5 p.m.
