
Sailing Earns Podium Finishes Across All Four Weekend Events

The women's sailing team continued their strong start to the fall season with a close third place finish out of 18 teams in the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1B at the U.S. Naval Academy. The Bears finished just one point short of second place, but still easily qualified for the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Oct. 11-12. Brown's B-division boat of co-skippers Katherine McNamara and Laura Hamilto, along with crew Katherine Majette finished a strong second place.Â
The coed sailing team competed in three different events over the weekend, with the point of focus being the Danmark Trophy hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The Bears finished in third place overall, out of the top 20 teams in college sailing. James Brock and Brianna Ross won the B-division with an impressive 12-point advantage over the College of Charleston.Â
On Saturday, Brown finished second overall out of 18 teams for the Smith Trophy at MIT, and second place out of 17 teams in the Boston University Invitational. The Bears lost each event by just one point. Camren Spriggs and Michelle Kaneti won the A-divison at the Smith Trophy by 18 points over second-place Boston College. Leila Pfrang and Phoebe Hackett claimed second place in the B-division at the BU Invitational, just one point shy of first place.Â

Brown will prepare for another four-event weekend. The women's team will head to New London, Conn. to compete for the Stu Nelson Trophy (Oct. 4-5). The coed sailing team will compete in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Championship at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (Oct. 4-5), the Sister Esther Open at Salve Regina (Oct. 4-5), and the Great Herring Pond Open at Massachusetts Maritime Academy (Oct. 4-5).
