PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's soccer junior midfielder Joy Okonye was named to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week. Her three goals and one assist last week contributed to the selection.
Okonye was impactful for the Bears' offense as they defeated Providence and Yale with a combined score of 9-2. Against Providence, Okonye scored an unassisted top corner goal, which ended up being the game-winner. She also threaded a pass inside the box to Ayla Sahin, who finished the play with a goal.
In Brown's Ivy League opener against Yale, Okonye scored two magnificent goals, knifing through defenders and scoring top shelf on each. She has been consistently drawing multiple defenders and shaking them off with ease. Okonye was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for her performances as well.
