NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Brown women's tennis team opened their fall season on Friday with three doubles wins against Boston University at the Bulldog Invitational.
Dani Ben-Abraham and first-year Abigail Lee began the winning streak in doubles, earning a 6-2 win over BU's Gabriella Mikahul and Lauren Kettlewell. Anne Yang and Ali Maguy picked up a 6-4 win at the second line, and the pairing of Bella Hu and newcomer Francesca Saroli, notched a 6-3 win over the Terriers' Ellie Gyuro and Rhea Rai.
"The goal for the first competition of the season was to play fearlessly and to compete for every point," said Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "In doubles, each of our teams played aggressively and with clarity, sticking with their game plan until the end of each match."
In singles, the Bears faced some challenges, but continued to battle against the Terriers. Sari Woo, Chloe Qin, and Francesca Saroli found success with set wins, some coming after hard-fought tie-breakers. Ben-Abraham also battled through a tense match that included two tie-breaker sets.
Reflecting on the day, Schmidhauser added, "In singles, our players competed very hard and even though the results didn't go our way, we will build on the good things we did today and continue to clean up some areas of opportunity in tomorrow's competition."
