Football Hosts 33rd Annual BFA Golf Classic

BARRINGTON, R.I. – The 33rd annual Brown Football Association Golf Classic was held this Monday, August 4 at Rhode Island Country Club. The event featured a max capacity of approximately 150 golfers, who enjoyed an afternoon on the links and the annual awards dinner.

After a full round of golf and a silent auction, the awards dinner was emceed by Scott Cordischi, the voice of the Bears, and featured remarks from head coach James Perry '00, ESPN's Chris Berman '77, and BFA Executive Committee Chair Mike Bernert '76
The program featured the presentation of two awards, the Robert F. Hall '66 Award and the Andrew J. Joslin '65 Award.
The Hall Award was presented to Manuel E. Menezes '64, which is given annually to those who have distinguished themselves in support of the BFA Golf Classic. A three-year member of the football team, Manny was in ROTC all four years at Brown and graduated in 1964. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation and participated in 12 major operations leading an infantry platoon during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1968 and served 22 more years in the Marine Reserves. He has been a Brown season ticket holder for 25 years and is a regular participant at the BFA Golf Classic.
The Joslin Award was presented to Barrett Hazeltine ADE '66 hon., GP '06, GP '09, GP '15 in recognition for outstanding contributions to Brown football. The award is presented annually and is the only alumni service award given out by the Association. Hazeltine is a Professor Emeritus and continues to teach several courses at Brown, which he has done since 1959. He is the face of entrepreneurship at Brown and is a frequent attendee of Brown football practices and games.
The Bears are set to open the season on Saturday, September 20 at home against Georgetown. Season tickets are on sale now for all home games in the 100th anniversary season of Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium. Season ticket packages also include access to Brown's game against URI at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket on October 3.
