Page-Kuhr Among the Eight Finalists for IRCA's "The Oarsman" Honor
7/1/2025 5:16:00 PM | Men's Crew
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Oliver Page-Kuhr has had a decorated career with the Brown men's crew program, earning First Team All-Ivy honors in 2023-24 and Empacher-IRCA First Team All-American honors for the 2024-25 season as a senior leader for one of the country's top crews.Â
Page-Kuhr, who was selected to the 2025 IRCA Athlete Watch List earlier this season as one of the premier rowers in Division I, continues to add to a season that has garnered him much national recognition as he was named one of the eight finalists for "The Oarsman" as one of the top rowers in the country. The IRCA released the list earlier this morning, with Patrick Long (Princeton), Lachlan Doust (Syracuse), William Bender (Dartmouth), Frederik Breuer (Cal-Berkeley), Sam Sullivan (Penn), Logan Ullrich (Washington), and Gabriel Obholzer (Harvard) rounding out the rest of the nominees.Â
Brown's Varsity Eight crew finished fifth in the Grand Final at this year's IRA National Championship and finished first in the 2023 and 2024 IRA National Championship Petite Finals, with Page-Kuhr racing in the top boat for all three seasons. As a freshman during the 2021-22 season, he rowed with the Second Varsity and helped them take home a silver medal at that year's Eastern Sprints.Â
Oliver's impact since joining the program in 2021 cannot be overstated, as he has helped the Bears stay atop the rankings as one of the top crews in the nation. His leadership and work ethic can also be seen on the international stage as well, with Page-Kuhr competing at the Under 23 World Championships in 2022 and 2024 for Team Canada. His experience and success against the best athletes in the world has helped him maintain the standard of excellence that has led Brown crew to seven national championships between 1979 and 1995.
Men's Crew Head Coaching Chair Paul Cooke '89, who just completed his 24th season at the helm of Brown men's crew, spoke about the impact that Page-Kuhr has had on the program. "Oliver has led our team in commitment and physical courage. He brought his positive energy and personality to our team," said Cooke. "He brought terrific energy and excitement to every practice and his accomplishments over four years were many. His ability to keep moving the boat deep in the race helped our crews finish strong. I'm grateful for his leadership."Â
The winner of "The Oarsman" will be announced on July 11.Â
