No. 20 Women’s Lacrosse Falls 17-16 in Back and Forth Ivy League Tournament Semifinal to No. 5 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Brown women's lacrosse team (10-6, 4-3) fell 17-16 to No. 5 Princeton in a back and forth Ivy League Tournament Semifinal on Saturday afternoon.
After the Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, the Bears exploded with six-straight goals. Leah Caputo headlined the Bears run with three free position goals, Brown's six-goal run spanned 6:14 of first quarter action. Princeton stopped the Brown run with a goal to cut the Bears' lead to 6-3, Riley Peterson quickly found the back of the net to extend Brown's lead to 7-3 heading into the second quarter.
Princeton opened the second quarter on a 3-0 run to cut Brown's lead to 7-6, all three goals were scored by the Ivy League Attacker of the Year McKenzie Blake. After Princeton cut Brown's advantage to just one, the Bears launched a 3-0 run of their own behind goals from Maddie Joyce, Ruby Sliwkowski, and Caputo. Following the Brown run, each team added one goal each in the remainder of the first half as the Bears took an 11-7 advantage into the second half.
The Tigers scored five consecutive goals to open the second half, giving them a 12-11 advantage. Princeton's fifth goal gave them the lead with 9:05 remaining in the third, Peterson ended the run with her second goal with 6:51 to go in the third frame.
Following Peterson's goal, Princeton closed the third quarter on a 3-0 run, taking a 15-12 lead into the final quarter.
Princeton opened the fourth quarter with a goal at the 2:12 mark, extending its lead to 16-12. Brown then mounted a 4-0 run to tie the game at 16. The run was headlined by two-straight goals from Greta Criqui, Caputo, and Sliwkowski. The goal by Sliwkowski capped the run for Brown and knotted the game at 16 with 3:27 remaining in regulation.
Meg Morrisroe found the back of the net with 41.6 seconds remaining, giving Princeton a 17-16 lead, a lead they would not relinquish after winning the ensuing draw control.
Caputo led all scorers with six goals, Annie Burton had four assists. Burton broke Brown's single season assists record in the first quarter, passing Lauren Becker who had 50 during the 1986 season, Burton now has 53. The senior also recorded her 100th career assist in the second half.
Beth Anderson and Criqui had five draw controls each, Criqui also finished with a hat trick.
In goal, Anne Booth got the start and recorded eight saves, Claire Mahoney replaced Booth with 1:52 remaining in the third quarter and posted four saves.
