No. 8 Women's Crew Heads to New Jersey for the Ivy Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After a highly competitive day of racing at the Eastern Sprints on May 4, Brown women's crew readies for the Ivy Championships in Cherry Hill, New Jersey from May 17-18. The Bears, who finished in second place at last year's event, come into this weekend with four outright Ivy Championships (2014-2017) and nine Ivy League V8 titles (1988, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2008, 2015).Â
Brown's V8, coming off a second place finish at the Eastern Sprints, has two first place finishes this season against the Penn Quakers and the Cornell Big Red. The V8 has only finished below second place once this season, with a third place finish in Sarasota on the second day of the Big Ten Invitational. Much like Brown's top boat, the 2V8, 3V8, A4, and B4 all finished in first place against Penn and Cornell, while the A4 also earned a first place finish against the Princeton Tigers on Mar. 29.
There will be no shortage of elite crews in Cherry Hill this weekend, as seven of the eight Ivy League programs rank in the top 21 of the latest CRCA Pocock Poll: Yale (fifth), Princeton (sixth), Brown (eighth), Harvard (12th), Penn (14th), Dartmouth (19th), and Columbia (21st). Cornell is the lone Ivy League program to not crack the top 25.Â
With that being said, Dahl Family Assistant Coach for Women's Crew Grace Collins knows the importance of having a strong showing this weekend. "Ivies represent the culmination of everything this team has worked for since arriving on campus," said Collins. "Each day leading up to this weekend has been met with intentionality and tenacity. At the heart of Brown Women's Crew are athletes who love to race - and I'm excited to watch them do exactly that this weekend."
