Men’s Lacrosse Falls Late in Season Finale to No. 12 Harvard
4/26/2025 7:24:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A late goal in the final minute by Harvard helped the Crimson top the Brown men's lacrosse team by a score of 11-10 on Saturday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Senior Aidan McLane and junior Marcus Wertheim each scored two goals for the Bears. Junior Ben Scandone and senior Matteo Corsi both contributed one goal and one assist. Senior Andy Demopoulos made his first career start in goal for Brown, recording a career-high 13 saves.
Before the game, the Bears honored the 21 seniors and fifth-years from the class of 2025, who were playing in the final game of their Brown careers.
Today, at certain points, things just didn't go our way," said Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men's Lacrosse Jon Torpey. "Credit to Harvard for capitalizing. It was an amazing effort by our guys. In a short amount of time here at Brown, I have grown to love this team and these seniors. We will miss this senior group that is moving forward, but the foundation they laid is something I know the returners will carry on.
The Bears wasted no time jumping on the Crimson early, striking for two goals in the first 51 seconds. The first came right off the opening faceoff when Dash Sachs controlled the draw, raced towards the goal, and scored just five seconds in. Corsi made it 2-0 only 51 seconds later, and Wertheim tacked on another goal at 7:17 to make it 3-0. The Bears extended their lead to 4-0 with 1:48 left in the opening quarter when Corsi made a nifty one-handed pass in front to Ben Locke, who put home his first goal of the season.
Demopoulos made three saves in the first quarter, including a big stop as time expired.
Harvard scored the first four goals of the second quarter, including two in a span of 57 seconds to tie the score 4-4, prompting a Brown timeout at 5:36. Luke Dellicicchi broke the streak with a goal to put Brown back in front, and Demopoulos made his seventh save in the closing seconds to keep the Bears in front 5-4 at halftime.
Felix Rockefeller got the lead back to two at 11:29 to the third quarter, but the Crimson answered just under four minutes later to pull within 6-5 at the media timeout. McLane and the Crimson traded goals late in the quarter to knot the game 7-7 heading to the fourth.
The Bears went up 9-8 as Wertheim put one top shelf before Harvard scored two straight to take just their second lead of the game, 10-9, with 7:04 left. Brown once again drew even with 4:19 left on McLean's second of the game.
Following a questionable foul call on the Bears with just over one minute left, Harvard's Jack Speidell took a centering pass and put it in under the bar with 58.1 seconds left for what proved to be the game-winner.
