Women's Rugby Set to Compete at Ivy League 7s Tournament on Saturday
4/17/2025 3:00:00 PM | Women's Rugby
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown Bears women's rugby program will head to Harvard for a clash with three Ivy League rivals on Saturday.
10:40 a.m. – Vs. Dartmouth
They'll begin group play against Dartmouth, who ended Brown's 15s season in the 2024 NIRA semi-finals a few months ago. Despite that, Brown has been strong this spring and looks poised to flip the script. The Bears scored 33 points against Dartmouth in that semifinal loss, the most anyone had scored against them the entire fall.
Dartmouth is undefeated in 7s play this season, winning all three games. That includes a 15-7 victory over the Harvard Crimson, who they lost to in the 2024 NIRA Championship.
12:40 p.m. – Vs. Princeton
The Bears will take on the Princeton Tigers in the second game of the tournament, seeking to continue their dominance from the 15s season. Brown traveled to Princeton and defeated the Tigers 46-5 in September.
Princeton had a strong start to the 7s season, but struggled at their home Emperor 7s tournament, going 1-2 on the day which included a loss to Dartmouth.
2:20 p.m. – Vs. Harvard
The third match of the day could prove crucial, as only two of the four varsity teams will advance to meet in the final. Harvard defeated Brown in their lone 15s match in the fall, 18-12. The narrow loss was tightly contested until the very end.
The 2024 NIRA Division 1 Champions have also had a strong 7s season, placing third at the Crimson 7s and second at the Emperor 7s tournament. The home field advantage could benefit Harvard, but the Bears are the two-time defending CRC 7s National Champions for a reason.
COACH'S QUOTE
"The team has been fast at work to compete at Ivy 7s," said Kathleen Flores women's rugby head coach Rosalind Chou. "We know it's going to be a challenge in every match and we know that we've got to bring our best in each contest. I'm looking forward to see our hard work pay off this weekend."
The top two teams will advance to the Championship game at 5:40 p.m.
